Yesterday we wrote about the Sony Xperia X coming to the US. In that same story, we said the Xperia X series could be replacing the longstanding Xperia Z series. Today, Sony has officially confirmed the news. The Xperia X will be taking over for the Xperia Z. Here is the statement from Sony Mobile:
The Xperia Z line has reached its culmination – Xperia X series represents a new chapter and evolution of our product strategy. Whilst the Xperia Z series was all about bringing the best of Sony’s advanced technologies to smartphones, Xperia X series is based on bringing smart, adaptive Sony user experiences across camera, battery performance and hardware / software design.
What does this means for the future of Sony phones? We don’t see this news having much of an impact. The Sony Xperia X Performance picks right up where the Sony Xperia Z5 left off. The Xperia X and Xperia XA will target the lower-end markets. If you’re a fan of Sony phones, there’s nothing to worry about. All you have to do is get used to a new letter.
The news that really matters is the Xperia X will be coming to the US. Sony has had a hard time bringing their great devices to US carriers. Hopefully the X series will be able to break into the US market. We’d love to have more Sony phones in our lives.
