Samsung tries to inject some BlackBerry into the Galaxy S7 with a Keyboard Cover

0

Last year, Samsung introduced a new Keyboard Cover accessory for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. The concept was you could snap on a keyboard for certain situations and not be permanently stuck with a half-size display. It was a good idea, but we never really saw it take off. Samsung is trying the Keyboard Cover again with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

The new Keyboard Cover is nearly identical to the old one. It clips on to the front of the device, nestled at the bottom like a typical Blackberry phone, covering about a third of the display. The phone automatically recognizes when the keyboard is attached and shifts the UI up. Underneath the keyboard is where the magic happens. The portion of the display underneath the keyboard is what recognized the keys being pressed.

The portion of the display underneath the keyboard is what recognized the keys being pressed. This is important because it means the Keyboard Cover doesn’t connect with Bluetooth, and therefore never needs to be charged. The buttons for Recents, Home, and Back work in the same way. When you’re not using the Keyboard Cover, it clips onto the included case on the back.

If you’re someone that loves a physical keyboard, this is the perfect accessory. It’s there when you need it, but doesn’t take up valuable screen real estate when you don’t. You get all the benefits of a big beautiful display and the classic BlackBerry keyboard. The Samsung Keyboard Cover will be available in mid-March for $60 for both Galaxy S7 devices. Are you picking one up?
