Samsung Galaxy S7 said to have hybrid dual-SIM slot to support microSD cards

0

All the renders we’ve seen and info we heard suggested Samsung was passing on a microSD slot yet again for the Samsung Galaxy S7, but perhaps that’s because the microSD slot is hidden. Naver — a Korean publication — is reporting that Samsung is planning to use a dual-SIM hybrid port in the Galaxy S7.

These ports allow you to put in either 2 SIM cards or a SIM card and microSD card, and — depending on the hardware design — slot them into the same port at the same time. It would explain why many wouldn’t detect the presence of a microSD slot based on renders alone. It’s worth pointing out that Samsung went with a dual-port design for the dual-SIM hybrid feature on the 2015 Galaxy A phones, but went with a single-port design for the 2016 renditions, so they’ve definitely been practicing.

But this is a scary rumor to believe, if only because the feeling of disappointment when getting your hopes up is not a great feeling at all. That’s why we’re going to continue to straddle the line of caution on believing this one. We’d love it if it were true, though, so we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed!
