Telus: Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTAs for Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 to begin October 5th

0

We’re just a few days away from Google’s September 29th event where they’re planning to announce the latest Nexus phones. With the launch of Nexus devices typically comes the release for the latest major versions of Android. In 2015’s case, that’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

So we know those devices will ship with Marshmallow whenever they arrive, but what about the ones that you may already have? Telus might have just spilled the beans: we could be seeing an Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA begin October 5th.

The company said as much on their upgrade schedule page, noting that both the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 — the models from 2013 and 2014, respectively — will get it. That’s quite the expectation as we typically don’t see OTA rollouts for older Nexus devices happen until the new devices have already shipped. That said, this isn’t your typical Nexus launch, and we should never expect Google to stick to the same script year in and year out.
