Straight out of left field, Verizon has announced they’re now ready to officially begin rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Samsung Galaxy S5. Often times ridiculed as being the slowest carrier to push out over-the-air updates to their devices (because of their lengthy technical approval process), Verizon has thrown everyone for a loop after becoming the first carrier in the US to push out Lollipop to the Galaxy S5. Bet you guys never saw that one coming.
The update brings a fresh coat of paint thanks to an all new Material redesign (with Samsung’s trademark TouchWiz UI on top), new lockscreen, sound profiles, and all new recents menu (previously known as the multitasking menu). If you haven’t gotten prompted about the update yet, you can always manually check by jumping into your Settings app > About phone > Software updates to pull the update right now.
Did Hell freeze over?
I think so…
Yes.
Yes. Also, pigs fly.
Especially with the bloatware and potential lock down that Big Red is known for.
No, but you can freeze it with Titanium Backup if you have root.
And lock the gates of hell with Big Red’s locked bootloader.
This isn’t how it’s supposed to happen!
Does Spock have a beard in this universe?
I am not surprised. The Verizon S5 also received 4.4 updates quickly.
People don’t remember that stuff. Only that it’s Verizon and Samsung…
And that Verizon is traditionally last with updates and releases.
The Verizon S5, I guess is the exception.
My Verizon S5 is updating right now. My Verizon M8 will probably wait quite a bit longer.
DoubleYou Teee Eff!
Lol
… and the galaxy implodes, no pun intended.
But will it root?….
Why yes, I do believe I will.
This is Verizon, chief. I seriously doubt it.
Update is already downloaded and installed. What are we doubting exactly?
I’m not doubting the update. I’m doubting the exploit to root.
Mind blown…
Yup, it’s not April 1st and I am awake, so this story is somehow true.
smooth as silk. Although it is 5.0 and not 5.0.2. So far so good, but I’ll probably do a hard reset just to be safe.
Where is the Verizon G3 update already.
Yep.
