Only 71 days since Android 5.0 Lollipop hit AOSP, both the unlocked and Developer Edition HTC One M8 are now officially receiving the update. It’s definitely well before HTC’s promised 90-day timing, with the 584.83MB update bringing the HTC One M8 to software version 4.16.1540.8 and Android 5.0.1 with Sense 6.0.

HTC One M8 Developer Edition Android 5.0 Lollipop

It was only a few hours ago we got a brief sneak peek at the update running on a One M8 and next in line for HTC devices confirmed to receive Lollipop at some point is still the original HTC One (M7), HTC One Mini. HTC also mentioned the HTC One M8 Eye will get Lollipop within 120 days from their original November 3rd announcement, so be on the lookout.

Expect the update to eventually hit carrier branded models in the coming days/weeks/months. At this point we can only guess which US carrier will be first out the gate with the update (or who will be last). Place your bets.

Thanks, vmry2!

P.S. Seems HTC has also added the Sense browser — aka HTC Internet — to their list of apps available on the Google Play Store for easy updating.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

    1. I’m going to say AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, then Verizon.

      1. I really hope you’re right

  2. Come on AT&T just release it first, you guys have missed the 4.4.4 update, don’t dissapoint again

    1. Everyone did. HTC backported the biggest 4.4.4 change into 4.4.3. As far as I know, there is no Sense 4.4.4…

      1. Yea, I actually meant 4.4.3… thanks for the correction tho

      2. Actually, the Eye Experience changed the Android version to 4.4.4 (but only in number since all the fixes were introduced in 4.4.3).

      3. The Sprint One M8 has been on 4.4.4 for some time.

  3. And I’ll be waiting for it on the AT&T m7. Patiently. :p

  4. Att,tmobile,verizon,sprint

  5. i have an Unlocked HTC one M8 and i’m yet to receive any update. Any ideas why? Is the update regional?
