LG G Flex 2 all but confirmed ahead of official CES unveiling, and it’s no longer a mid-range darling

We’re on the eve of the year’s biggest technology convention, and announcements and leaks are already starting to roll in. The latest happenings come from the LG camp, as the company’s leaked CES posters have revealed that they’re looking to talk about the LG G Flex 2 at their corners of the convention center halls.

While the posters themselves don’t reveal anything meaningful — they confirm the device is meant to bend, as we assumed — an alleged early press releases gives us a pretty clear idea of what to expect. The first takeaway is that LG is trimming this down, as its flexible, virtually indestructible display will come in at 5.5 inches instead of the whopping 6-inch frame of the original LG G Flex. That display will also come with 1920 x 1080 resolution, so not the highest available on the market but also not 720p, either.

Under the hood is expected to be either a Snapdragon 805 or Snapdragon 810 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, a 3,000mAh battery, a 13 megapixel camera with laser autofocus and optical image stabilization, a 2.1 megapixel front shooter, and more.

Folks can expect LG to bring back the unique self-healing back that debuted on the original G Flex. If you’re not aware, you could take a pocket knife to that thing and it’d look as good as new just a few minutes later. Not that you’re going to have pocket knives grazing your phone often or anything, but that should give you confidence that it can go toe-to-toe with your keys and pocket change.

We naturally assume LG will look to Android 5.0 Lollipop for software needs on any new smartphones going forward, though there’s no clear indication what the G Flex 2 will be launching with just yet. Suppose it’s just a matter of waiting for the formal CES announcement to see what, exactly, the South Korean company plans to do.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. this might be my upgrade when it comes out….I’m growing tiresome of the bugs on my Nexus 6 and might have to jump on this awesome bangwagon!

    1. lol thats terrible… can’t believe what a flop the N6 is. But I appreciate the honesty. I’m almost positive you’ll like the Flex 2

      1. I love the phone in so many ways….but the bugs some times outweigh that. I loved my G2 and G3 so i’m used to the LG interface…

  2. Pre-curved, maybe Apple could learn a thing or two, eh?

    Or maybe we’ll get “straightgate”?

    1. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH That is so funny

  3. But will it have the best feature? Green-shifted screens and burn-in?

  4. I was really hoping that it would be bigger than 5.5″. If it is only 5.5″, it’s going to be a tough decision between the G Flex 2, Nexus 6, and Note 4. Decisions, decisions…

    1. wait for the 5.1 updated in February before getting the Nexus 6. Mine has a few, but bugs that impact my daily use of the phone that drive me NUTS.

      1. My contract isn’t up until March, anyhow, so I still have plenty of time.

  5. I don’t know why would I buy such a phone. After looking at this, Samsung Edge doesn’t seem such a bad application of curved display.

  6. I would like to try another manufacturer, but looks like I’ll be sticking with Samsung until someone else releases a powerful phone with expandable storage and removable battery.

    1. You don’t have to wait… The LG G3 is already out…

      1. Lol…no. The G3 does not qualify as an upgrade when it’s going on a year old.

        1. That would depend on where your coming from….

  7. Very interested.

  8. Was really hoping for more of a power house. 3500+mah, 3GB, and 64GB storage. Also 5.7-5.9 would have been preferred. :-(
