For Android users looking for a circular Android Wear powered smartwatch, up until now, the choices have been slim pickins with the Motorola Moto 360 being your best (read: only) bet. But after an official announcement back on Monday, the round smartwatch market is getting an all new entry with the LG G Watch R, now available for purchase online.

Making its official US debut, the LG G Watch R can only be picked up through AT&T’s website. But those with a little patience can see what all the hype is about firsthand when the watch hits AT&T retail stores this Friday, November 7th. The LG G Watch R features a premium PVD metal finish and is only available in black (although you can personalize it with custom watchfaces). The watch is also compatible with any standard 22mm wristband and has an IP67 water resistance rating.

The latest Android Wear update brought the ability to store music and pair headphones to the watch meaning you can leave your phone in the car if you’re planning on going for a run. There’s also a 9-axis gyroscope and accelerometer built-in hear rate sensor to keep track of your performance. While the look may not be for everyone, it’s definitely a lot more traditional than Motorola’s take on the smartwatch. AT&T listing linked below.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Nice watch LG.
I’m guessing from the pricing that you’re not too worried about moving many of these……

We’ll see ya right around Black Friday.

    1. Yep. Waiting for the inevitable holiday sale, then maybe I’ll put it on my Xmas list.

  2. Am holding out for Moto 360 2nd gen. Given Apple watch may come later, I would hope for Moto’s sake they have another one up their sleeve with more modern CPU ready to release by the time Apple releases theirs. Missed opportunity if not.

    1. That’s what’s doing also. No point in buying a smart watch with a pitiful battery life

      1. My Moto 360 usually is at 50% when I put it on the charger after a 14 hour day. Anyone not buying it solely because they suspect the battery life isn’t up to snuff is missing out.

        1. GWR has MUCH better battery life (based on early review).

          1. That’s great, I can’t wait to check it out. My point was, though, that I have no battery issues with the 360 at all, so to call the battery life “pitiful,” at least in my experience, is misleading.

  3. LG is going for the swashbuckling buccaneers, RRRRRRRRRRRR!
Maybe a “Rolex” simulated face, now that would say “show me the money”!

  4. I don’t see the reason to pay more for this over the 360, but I’ll find out soon in store. And why AT&T?!?! GRR.

I’m going to just have to pick up either of em and get a separate metal band as no one wants to overcharge me for an OEM metal band.

  5. 300? Oh hell no!
