[Update: someone jumped the gun] Nexus 6 is now officially available for pre-order on Google Play

When Google first took the wraps off the Nexus 6 earlier this month, they failed to pin a specific date on when we could expect the phone to land on Google Play. About a week later, we watched as the phone’s Play Store listing was suddenly updated with an October 29th pre-order date. Well, the time has come: the Nexus 6 is now officially available for pre-order from the Google Play Store.

Nexus 6 quick specs

  • 5.96-inch, QHD (1440×2560) display
  • Snapdragon 805 processing (quad-core 2.7GHz) with Adreno 420 graphics
  • 13MP rear and 2MP front-facing cameras
  • 3,220mAh battery

Available in 32GB for $650, or 64GB for $700, like Google Play edition devices, we don’t expect the full-priced unlocked model to break any sales records. Thankfully, unlike Nexus devices before it, you can get the phone subsidized through any of the 4 major US carrier’s early upgrade/payment plans when it officially launches next month.

Google’s early estimates say the device is shipping in 3-4 weeks which somewhat lines up with their expectations to have the device shipped out in early November. We have to ask — anyone actually pre-ordering the full-priced unlocked model?

Nexus 6 on Google Play

[Update]: The Google Play listing allowed us to add the 32GB model to cart for about 2 seconds, though Google seems to have set it back to out of inventory. The 64GB is model is still showing the same “coming soon” banner that we’ve ween before. Reports from our comments section, inbox and even our own Derek Ross confirms people who were fast enough were able to place orders.

We doubt Google has already sold out of their initial stock of Nexus inventory so quickly and without saying a word. They are more than likely just making sure everything on the Play Store listing is peachy clean and ready to go. The addition of new promo text that details an offer for a free 6-month Google Play Music All Access subscription certainly leads us to believe someone at Google accidentally let the order form go live ahead of time.

This certainly does mean they’re preparing to open the floodgates, though, and you’ll want to have that trigger finger ready for whenever it goes live. We’ll be updating this post with any relevant information as the seconds and minutes tick by.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Says it’s already sold out? Probably an error. If I can’t get one today, I’ll just grab one through T-Mobile. Although I miss out on some Discover reward points.

    1. the 32gb was there for 2 sec, then out of order. I keep refreshing the 64gb one and nothing but coming soon

      1. I had the 32GB in my cart before I realized it was the white one. Backed out to get the blue, and both were sold out.

  2. Whaaa. Already sold out?

  3. And now it says that the 32GB is out of stock.I’ve been watching for some time and there no way they were for sale out.I’m not buying right so I don’t care.

    1. And that the 64gb is still coming soon

      1. i really hope this is a glitch or something. if they are already out of stock…… this is going to be a long product launch

  4. I was able to snag one before it sold out. 32G White.

  5. Now it says all are out of stock, in less then a minute something must be wrong

  6. Hmm, now it offers 6 months of free google play all access music. Weeeeee

  7. I wonder how many were bought to resell on eBay for more money?

    1. Have you checked ebay fees lately? You would have to sell it close to $1,000 for it to be really worthwhile. Maybe craigslist….

      1. 10% for ebay and 4% for paypal

      2. Swappa ftw!

      3. Yes, their fees are better than they used to be. I worked there for four years and watched them climb every year, and after having not listed for years, I noticed I was charged less and I even got free listings if some didn’t sell.

    2. Thats all they do by doing things the way they do.

  8. Will the carrier versions be locked?

    1. I hear they’re locked and packed with bloatware. Unlocked is the best way to go.

  9. Did anyone get an earlier ship date than 11/21?

  10. That sucks, Already out of stock?

  11. The page has been updated to show 6 months of free Google Play Music so something’s definitely happening

  12. I never understood their pre-order process. This isn’t the iPhone where droves of people line up outside of stores. Yes it’s pure Android (duh), but because of it’s size this phone will have a niche market. Even more so with the Nexus 5 and Moto X 2 for people who don’t want a phablet. So to be sold out already, are they listing like 50 at a time? I had to play the browser refresh game the past 2 years to grab the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5. Silly.

    1. goes to show you, that they’re more popular than you think.

      1. It’s not more popular than we think. Samsung, LG, Motorola, and HTC phones run national advertisements. Those are the phones we can expect to have launch shortages if their “next big thing” is ready for the masses. The Nexus line is the hidden gem within the Android community. Like I said with this phone, even running pure Android, it’s still caters to a niche market due to it’s phablet size (and it’s price increase hasn’t helped either, even though it’s inline with premium phones.)

This phone isn’t sold out as we can now tell. It’s just another buggy launch from Google.

        1. i can’t buy the phone, so to me, that means its sold out. i’ve been trying all day to buy one.

          1. I’ve been following this thread for a few hours now. It’s not sold out. There was a 5 second window where if you were fast enough, some people got them. Most added it to their cart, only to find it was empty and back out of stock. Same BS happened last year with the Nexus 5. You could place 2 orders on the same day, but the earlier order shipped in about 1-2 weeks, where as the later order was about 2-3 weeks. They have a crappy system, just like Oppo and their past invite system for a new phone trying to break ground.

    2. I also hate that the games they play online, I was close to getting a Nexus 5 last year but the out of stock issue just became annoying so I opted for a G2

      1. I have the exact same story. I loved that G2 though.

    3. those droves of people lined up outside iPhone stores are guaranteed a phone. the Demand exists for Nexus phones….. now let us have it Google !

  13. Now it shows the 64gb out of stock.

    1. That was weird. It went from coming soon and then directly to out of inventory.

  14. how about you guys just wait a few months? chances are the lot of you have more than capable phones anyway.

    1. Hell lets just wait till next year.

  15. so are we actually going to get to pre-order anything or was this just a troll by Google?! If they are out of stock now, we should just wait until christmas or something and try and get one

  16. Instantly out of stock/??

  17. Man I hit add to cart and then my cart was empty…

  18. I just happened to hit refresh in the window and was able to place an order for the blue 32GB. I was kind of leaning for the 64, but when i saw that was still listed as coming soon, I just pulled the trigger on the 32. My ship date is also listed as 11/21.

    1. geez November 21?? I cant wait that long after selling my Nexus 5 and using a cracked iphone 4

  19. something seems off

  20. 4 times now i’ve been able to click “add to cart” only to have it say my cart is empty and then sent to “out of inventory” message…

  21. Has anyone been able to purchase the Nexus 6 Blue 64gb?

    1. nope…not able to purchase any at all!

  22. There’s no way this item is out of stock… Nexus devices are not this popular regardless of what anyone thinks.

    1. Says a troll who has no idea what he’s talking about.

  23. So far, running about neck and neck with the Nexus 5 debacle…

    Unbelievable.

    1. This launch makes the Nexus 4 and 5 launch look good.

  24. Really fustrating. Google needs to fix this issue!

  25. No way this is accurate. This is not how pre-orders work. You pre-order and the demand is filled at a later time, otherwise why pre-order. I think google is testing operations and this should be fully online at 3 PM EST.

    1. 15 minutes from now. 1345 central

  26. 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time

  27. For what it’s worth (if this is new info), it says mine leaves the warehouse on 11/21/14

EDIT: Nevermind, I see others have posted this as well.

  28. i refreshed the page every 10 minutes or so for a couple of hours and missed it.

this would have been the first new phone in 4 years.

right now i have a perfectly good DROID RAZR MAXX HD with a 64 gig sd card.

if google jerks me around a little more……….

    next stop LENOVO VIBE Z2.

  29. “Not available in your country”… *sigh*…

  30. We will see what happens in the next 10 min.
On the hour… if nothing….. im not hopeful

    1. No dice. :-(

  31. This is the second time Motorola f..ed us Canadians. No availability in Canadian Play, just like Moto 360. #FUMOTO

    1. Not available in America either…..something is jacked up….

      1. North America or South America?

        1. North America. It went from pre-orders Oct 29th to Out of stock. There was no ability to purchase the 64GB ever

          1. at least you can see it in google play, we can’t see even a shadow of nexus 6 in google play here in Canada….what a shame!

  32. Why does google put up a phone for sale and then not allow 99% of the people who want to buy it the ability to purchase it !!! WHY GOOGLE !!! This is the biggest dissapointment from google this year…

  33. This is a big SHAM by GOOGLE all just promotional stunt and retarded ass fudge.

How many units where available 2 off each.

Skipping Nexus and getting a G3

    1. I own a G3 you won’t regret it , it’s a great phone ………….to accompany my Note3 and Nexus5…

      1. i was about to get the note 4, but held off because i want the Nexus 6…but after all this, i might just go back to the Note 4.

        1. I’m really holding out for the Note Edge I think it will get to us in the next 60 days…..

          1. I was as well, got a bit impatient though & ordered the NOTE 4 yesterday.
Drop in @ the Note Edge forum,if you haven’t already……………

      2. Don’t really know why you’d need both a Note 3 and a G3 or why you’d spend the money to own both.

        1. Got bored with touchwiz , wanted to try something different, phones and electronics are my hobby, don’t drink don’t smoke, do I have multiple phones and tablets as do many others, and I Flash different Roms, on all my devices almost every week, so I feel like I have a brand new phone or tablet every week, it’s better then spending 500$ on dinner and a couple bottles of wine every weekend, I hope that answers your question, Smile it’s almost Friday…..; )

  34. They won’t have to worry about selling out this time like in the past, not a lot of people will buy it like in the past

    1. they already sold out. Everybody wants to buy it, just like in the past. I can’t even buy one if I wanted to…

      1. Not everybody, typically I would go and buy it on first day but not this time 700 bucks is about 200 more than id be willing to pay and I’m sure a lot of people feel that way. Part of the appeal was the price point

        1. and even with all that, they still sold out. i’ve been refreshing the webpage the whole entire day, it flashed for half a second as available, when i clicked to add to cart, it vanished. even at $700 it sold out…

  35. Here in Belgium there isn’t even anything mentioned about the Nexus 6 on Google Play. Only Nexus 5 and Nexus 9. :( And for the Nexus 5, it still says “The new smartphone from Google”

    1. They clearly don’t care about Belgium. Most people don’t, though, sadly.

  36. There should never be a sell out of any device on pre-order. The only thing that should change is the date you receive your device.

    1. exactly!!! i dont get it at all!

    2. Couldn’t agree more. Google is terrible at launching devices.

  37. It must have been taken down already. Can’t pre order. I so want this phone. I’ll definitely be getting the 64GB unlocked model since I already have 2 phones on contract. In the infamous words of Bart Scott ” Can’t wait”.

  38. Nailed it.

  39. I actually had hope that they would pull off a good launch this year. The nexus strategy looked different, high end phone, all four carriers, etc. But I guess some things never change. I was trying to decide between this and another phablet, and this is making me lean towards the other. I’ll go ahead and say it: it’s the iPhone 6 plus. Don’t shoot me.

    1. Since this scenario plays out over & over w/every NEXUS launch,I’m guessing it’s a way of GOOGLE/MOTO gauging interest & adjusting mfg numbers accordingly.

  40. I’m curious as what the stock levels where. Apple seems to do a god job keeping phones in stock and anticipating the pre-order rush. Google failed with the Nexus 4 launch, Nexus 5 launch and now the Nexus 6 launch.

  41. If you run out of inventory on “Pre Orders”, you are as pathetic as 1+1.

    1. At this point, the first day thrill is gone. I might as well grab it from T-Mobile.

      1. Tmo has no money down offer coming too. I am going to Tmo and getting mine. Enough refreshing for 2 days…

  42. Yeah… this is much much much much worse than the Nexus 4 launch. Even then, i got my order in and received my phone relatively quickly and other just got pushed back ship dates which would have been fine.

If no news today or tomorrow, i’m going with a used Nexus 5 or a used Moto X 2014.

  43. I suppose this is where OnePlus learned how to handle pre-orders……………

  44. I’m thinking about getting this. I want to sell my my Nexus 7 2013 and use this. This is perfect for me. Though, I may just give it away to family if I’m in a good mood. LoL!!

  45. Has anyone heard any news on when the pre-orders may commence??!! This is ridiculous!
