Motorola invites us to “choose” on September 4th (Moto X+1 and G2 being unveiled?)

Early September is jam packed with more events than your average person can handle, but add another to the calendar — Motorola has something to show us on September 4th. The company put together a colorfully animated save the date, telling us to “choose” a bunch of things: choose to discover, choose to have fun, and to choose a “new experience.”

We’re sure all that is hinting toward something that we’ll be able to customize via Moto Maker. The Moto X+1, perhaps? Could the Moto G2 also be in store? Will we also be hearing more about the Moto 360? Tons of possibilities.

We can’t say for sure what, exactly, will be on Motorola’s agenda, but the late summer drop date of whatever this announcement turns out to be sure does fit Motorola’s original wishes to reveal their next flagship right around this time. The latest Moto X+1 rumors tell us to expect a device made up of the following internals:

  • 5.2-inch 1080p display
  • Android 4.4.4 KitKat
  • Snapdragon 800 processor
  • 12MP rear / 5MP front facing cameras
  • 32GB internal storage (with micro SD card slot up to 128GB)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 2,900mAh battery (26 hours of mixed usage)
  • Water resistance

Not quite the “boom, pow, zap!” sort of phone others are sure to come out with in the second half of 2014, but Motorola proved they could provide a top notch experience without having to pack in a ridiculous set of silicon with the original Moto X. Expect them to do the same with the follow-up should it be the star of the show September 4th.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. So we got Motorola, Samsung, then Apple launching all in the same month.

Basically we got two Godzillas launching vs a tree lizard.

    1. Hey Motorola has a secret weapon …optic camo it will be so invisible no one will notice… And when the the behemoth’s kill each other , well let’s just say no one is taller than the last lizard crawling…

    2. Apple, no thanks. Samsung….if they included a microSD card. I’m left reconsidering the original Samsung against the new moto X+1 and possibly LG. Hmmm. Wait for Nexus 6 to materialize?!!!

      1. Samsung always has SD cards..

    3. Apple being the tree lizard?

  2. If motorola puts together all this and IP67 water resistance, I’m ditching my Galaxy S4 for the Moto X+1.

Though, it’s tempting to wait and see what comes of the Nexus 6.

This is a good year to want a phone! So many choices. All I know, is I don’t want the Galaxy S5. Too much bezel.

    1. I wish next gen moto x and g have sdcard slot support, if so Im in.

    2. And the HTC One M8 is too tall.

Worst design decision ever was to make the phone 3/4″ taller just to fit a useless HTC logo on the front of the phone. It drives me insane.

If they had gotten rid of the HTC logo and bumped the UltraPixel camera to 6MP, I’d own one right now.

    1. Moto X, G, 360 and???

      1. Moto Whisper 2? That’s my best guess anyways..

      2. If you remember a while ago (during the Dennis Woodside chat IIRC), they said they were experimenting with in-ear wearables.

    2. The colors may not be in the right order, but those are the Nexus colors and notice the shape of an X on the folds of the paper? As someone said in another blog, maybe this is Nexus foreshadowing as well???

  3. Those specs seem perfectly good to me I just hope the camera turns out to be good and it supports 600MHz

  4. Galaxy S3 owner, over a month out of contract and holding my breath for all the September news. I hope one of these new phones makes it worth my wait, because this is torture!

    1. Hell, I’m an S*2* owner who has been holding his breath since the first Sammy G5 prime rumor…now where’s Shamu?

      1. You’ve been waiting for quite some time. At this point, any phone you get will be legit.

  5. Moto X, Moto G, Moto 360 are shown on the invite as well as a Bluetooth headset.

  6. I think that my biggest factor regarding the X+1 is the design. I’m hoping for a better looking front of the device. The back on the Moto X was awesome, but I HAAAAAATED that plastic lip on the front. It was just…. a little much for me. Other than that, the phone was awesome, and I’m definitely considering this for an upgrade from my Nexus 5 (tough competition this year! Last year, the Nexus 5 was a no-brainer to me).

  7. 2900mAh battery is most impressive if true.

  8. I’m not in the market for a new phone, but I will pay attention to this announcement. I want to see the design philosophy and if it’s continued from the X. I loved the smaller form factor (which would have been considered a phablet 4 years go, go figure), and the marriage of hardware and software that gets top-tier performance without top of the line specs, which also helps to preserve battery life.

If Motorola really intends to go the route of other OEMS, with larger phones and top of the line specs for bragging rights, then I’ll cross them off my list going forward.

I also am very interested in the 360, so I’ll be watching for that.

  9. Why wouldn’t they just call it a G+1 to keep the theme going? Would also stop it from being the same as the G2 from LG.

    1. Call them Moto XX and Moto GG :)

  10. specs are nearly identical to last year’s LG G2. i expect the same if not better performance out of the X+1

  11. Let’s see if either 32GB or 64GB can match OPO’s place…. I hope so!
