A new update for Hangouts is hitting Android devices today bringing, not only a few key bug fixes, but new features as well. Version 2.1.223 introduces the ability to set your own custom ringtone for incoming calls, a likely precursor to voice calling we’d guess.
Also, Google mentions they’ve finally patched up that nasty battery draining bug plaguing so many devices. The update will be hitting the Google Play Store today (in a staged rollout, of course), but for those that don’t feel like waiting, you can sideload the apk via our link below.

I am in a bad mood about Google ever since they broke the access to the sd card from es file explorer
I don’t like the fact that I can’t create groups in Hangouts for sms only. I have to put everyone’s name each time I decide to send a mass message. I have to use Group Me. I wish google would listen to us.
Google’s like
Now if I could get individual ringtones in Voice where I really need it.
Okay! I see you sending that kissy emoji you player you ;-P
I can’t receive mms messages that’s what they really need to fix.
Can you in a different SMS app? Seems more likely that its a network problem than an app problem.
Can we finally have per contact ringtones?
Had to uninstall previous version from Tibu and sideload the .apk to get it installed.
Wouldn’t install from a straight sideload.

Can Hangouts send multiple pictures at once? I can’t seem to figure it out xD
OR VIDEO BAH!
Hi HangOut experts,
Can you please show me how to make a voice only call? For some reasons, I always get video call (whether incoming or outgoing). I have to hit the “Disable Video” button manually. I would like to do the opposite: audio call by default, and only enable video manually if needed. Thanks in advance for any help.
I’m not using Hangout for one simple reason, you can’t remove someone from a group chat. That’s weird.
