Sony has just announced a nice, big upgrade to their Walkman app for Xperia users. You’ll be looking for version 8.0.A.0.4, which is poised to bring us many great changes. Those who weren’t too satisfied with the Smart Playlist experience might be pleased by the following list of changes:
- “Newly added” playlist
- “Most played” playlist
- “Now playing” indicator for songs, albums and playlists
In addition to all of that, Sony has added the ability to save Music Unlimited playlists shared by your friends, as well as the ability to have any songs you identify using TrackID added to an ongoing playlist. It’s nothing terribly huge, but those are some convenient features that should make life that much more easy for you music lovers.
What’s more is that Sony has finally added the ability to preview 30 seconds of a track if you aren’t a Music Unlimited subscriber, as well as a free trial period for trying out the service. The upgrade is going out over the course of this week to the Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z, so be on the lookout for it if this is something you’ll benefit from.

WALKMAN App Update Equalizer
I was surprised that Sony updates its core apps without a full system update. My Walkman and Gallery app have been updated twice since September on my Xperia ZR
Well that was fast. Xperia ZR is not listed but I got the update.
I still haven’t gotten last.fm scrobbling to work with it though, thus it’s useless.
