Verizon Wireless has officially announced the Verizon Ellipsis, a 7-inch Android tablet that they can finally call their own. This thing, said to be launching November 7th for $250, likely isn’t going to blow your socks off, but should be a nice option for those who want an affordable Android tablet equipped with Verizon’s 4G LTE radios.

We still don’t know what sits inside this device, so we’ll just have to take Verizon’s word for it being a great tablet that can do great things (work with me, folks). They did let loose that the display is “HD,” though no exact resolution can be had at this time.

Verizon curiously mentioned that this is the “first product from Verizon Wireless in the Ellipsis family,” which would suggest more tablets (or even a smartphone) could be on their way at some point down the line. That said, we’d rather learn more about this little guy before worrying about other products that may or may not already be in the pipeline.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Anticipation for this to beat the Nexus 7 Second gen is very low -.-

    1. Probably not at all.

  2. What if its a nexus 7 but gone the way of the galaxy nexus so google lets them sell it but not under nexus brandng

    1. It isn’t. Nowhere close. Nobody has bothered to leak this thing because it’s not even relevant. Nobody cares.

  3. 1.2 ghz quad core processor, 8gb of storage, 720p 7 inch display, and dat bezel. $250 full retail, $150 on contact.

    1. This is meant to be the super budget tab. The hardware is crap, but it has a market. It’s not intended for anyone that reads Phandroid lol

      1. Yea cause no of us would choose this over a 2013 nexus 7 for $50 less.

      2. Super budget would be better priced than the Nexus 7 with similar specs. Not all around worse, plus the software will probably be horrible. Pay more for less?

        1. “…not intended for anyone that reads Phandroid…”. That’s a key point in their comment. Meaning people don’t know about the Nexus 7, which is why they’re buying these low cost, low quality tablets.

  4. I don’t understand Verizon anymore, it’s been a long while since Verizon exclusive devices were considered cream of the crop and the ones it does have are barely supported. You lost me as a customer but I do hope you turn it around.. for the customers sake. Just support the quality devices out there instead of trying to make something look cool by being exclusive.

  5. These bezels look like this tablet is meant for kids, v-tech style!

  6. it kinda looks like a first gen kindle

  7. Unless they really drop the price I’d rather have a LTE Nexus 7.

  8. ridiculous

  9. I’ll stick with my new Nexus 7

  10. Needs more bezel and bigger logo

    1. Or at least a second logo, look at all that unused space. Verizon is slacking

  11. I don’t know why they didn’t just put V E R I Z O N across the entire screen. Just in case you forget who your daddy is..

    1. lolll now THAT was funny

  12. bleh…

  13. Well now we know very clearly why Verizon wants nothing to do with the Nexus 7….they want to sell this thing for more dough. …. whatever it is. I’m calling a MediaTek processor with 1GB of RAM or less.

  14. verizon is so lucky to have one of the best cellular network in USA or else most people would have switched already…

    1. I know I would…

    2. Lucky? That is their primary business. That’s like saying, “Apple is really lucky to make Mac computers, or else I would definitely switch to Microsoft.”

      1. Your analogy does not compare to what Kam Siu said. They’re talking about how good Verizon is in coverage, which is why people stay.

Your analogy should have been something like, “Apple is really lucky to have a good media editing computer, or people would have switched to Microsoft.”

I’m sorry, but I’m at work with nothing to do, so I thought I pick on people. LoL!!

        1. I see your point, but I think you overcorrected the analogy. The percent of Apple’s resources that go into media editing is nowhere near the percent of Verizon’s that goes into their network. Surely, Verizon does more than build and optimize a robust cell network — but Apple also does much more than make computers — they make tablets, phones, mp3 players, etc. Both companies have tried to branch out from their main product (Apple more successfully than Verizon). But at least for me when you give me a word association with “Verizon’s main product” — I think cell coverage. It is not as little a component of their business as iPhoto and iMovie is for Apple.

You can quibble with the format of the analogy, and that is fine, but my point no matter how you cut it is that it is ridiculous to say Verizon is “lucky” to have good coverage when it is the billions of dollars that they have invested in building the best cell network in the country that made them what they are. It is their main product — not some lucky coincidence that they stumbled upon while trying to make tablets.

          1. OMG, you guys are really bored. Do some work!

    3. Meh they are completely overrated and equaled by their competitors just about everywhere once you factor in reality and ignore marketing hype

  15. Verizon and Affordable is an oxymoron

  16. Why would I want to buy a device they will never update. I’ll stick with my Nexus 10 and just Wifi

  17. On the bottom, are those speakers? The black bars?

  18. I have complete confidence this will be a steaming pile of poo

  19. P. O. S. no doubt.

  20. Yea, it’s got front facing speakers ala HTC One, but that’s about the only thing going for it! And, yea, only 1GB RAM.
