The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 might not be the only device being unveiled at Samsung’s September 4th event in Berlin, Germany at IFA. (Find out more about what we should be seeing out of the Note 3 here.)

According to SamMobile, the Korean company will also take that opportunity to unveil their first smart watch, which is being dubbed the “Samsung Galaxy Gear.” We first heard about this watch when it popped up in a trademark filing not too long ago.

We’re still not sure what to expect out of the Galaxy Gear, but we imagine it’ll be one of the more interesting smart watches to hit the market. Let’s see if Samsung’s mobile genius really does extend far beyond tablets and smartphones. Be sure to stay tuned as we’ll be covering all of the company’s announcements once the event goes down.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. god i hate galaxy anything…getting to be as much as i hate apple anything

    1. Speak for yourself. This watch looks really cool. At least “galaxy anything” is still better than “apple anything”

      1. Chances are that you’re probably just seeing a misc render and not a render of the actual watch at all.

        1. The render is based off Galaxy Gear design patents.

          1. That’s great but what happens in real life still probably won’t match what you’re seeing in the render. In fact, I’m willing to bet that all who are expecting something that looks like this render will be sorely disappointed.

          2. Well theres always SONY, lol

      2. I am speaking for myself…and at this point id rather an iphone 5 then any cheap garbage sammy phone…but i hate apple n ios and love android so that would never happen

        1. wow, never saw a complete contradiction within one sentence before. Now i can say i have. lol

          1. Sad that your a yankee fan and such an idiot…not surr u know what s contradiction is…i said i rather an iphone then a samsung phone…but i hate iphone…means i hate them both…dont be sucha sammy fanboy that you associate android witj galaxy phones only bc its much bigger then that

          2. The mere mention that you would even buy an iPhone and then to say it would never happen is a contradiction. I know Android goes beyond Samsung phones, geez and you’re calling me an idiot. I dont have a Samsung phone so im not a “fanboy”. I actually own an HTC ONE.

        2. You’re an idiot.

    2. I agree. I hate their stock logos. Kudos to samsung for sticking with TouchWiz for so long, and getting a product name that people are familiar with, but stock android logos just look so much more mature, and less childish/silly

      1. seriously? I actually like the android logo, but you can’t deny the gree robot looks a bit childish

        1. Ya, it was. I’m ok with the android being childish because it’s not a logo Im forced to look at on my homescreen every time I turn on my phone. That’s been the main reason I’ve rooted my last two galaxy devices.

          1. i hear ya. i use nova prime and mui theme to change it :)

    3. Why?

    4. You make its sound like Galaxy phones are low-end crap. Just take a look at the GALAXY Note line and the GALAXY S line. It’s about as good as you can get.

  2. If ANY manufacturer introduced a smart watch that looked like that render – and ran smoothly, obviously – it would immediately jump to the top of my purchase list.

    1. Yes. That’s why I’m hoping it’s not Samsung devices only. That looks really nice. I like how the screen bends.

  3. I think the watch looks cool. I might try one and see if I like it. Getting tired of my same ol (old) Movado watch.

    1. Chances are that you’re just seeing a misc render and not a render of the actual watch at all.

  4. might see the flexible display introduced on the watch

    1. If anyone introduces a flexible display as a commercially viable product FIRST, it will be Apple.

  5. If their smartwatch looks good (ie: not the pebble 80’s digital watch look), I’ll be sure to get one.

    1. Hey!

  6. Pass. I’ll never wear an annoying thing on my wrists ever again.

    1. Poor guy. Have an up vote on me. The render looks nice, but I’m not a watch guy either.

  7. that looks amazing…

  8. Looks like an improvement over something worn on the head.

  9. Will it be for Samsung only devices? And I’m seriously asking this.

    1. Almost certainly compatible with most Android phones. I say ‘most’ as there is likely to be a minimum requirement for Android version (4.2 or higher etc.)

  10. I’m trying to swipe my credit card on the screen as I type this!!!

    1. ME TOO :)

      1. Lol that for sure… I cant wait to get this bad boy, especially if it looks like this with an amoled display. charge me whatever you went Sam I’m all in

  11. Hmmmm that’s what Samsung has in store for the curved screens they showed off in the past

    1. This would be the most logical first product to use the curved screens.

  12. Soooooo if Samsung announces a watch on Sept 4th and Apple announces theirs on Sept 10th. Will Samsung still be guilty of copying Apple. When reality neither would be copying the other just taking advantage of the latest affordable tech.

    1. Not surprisingly some of the Apple sites already claim that Apple invented the smart watch and everyone else is copying them.

      1. *pokes youtube video titled ‘has apple ever really invented anything?’*

        1. “Apple is a recipe company” really nails it.

  13. Note 2 is still kicking a$$ and taking names. With plastic and all. :)

  14. I’m very curious to see the design of the watch and it’s functions!!

  15. If the Sammy Watch looks like the one in the picture with curved glass o.O

    (THROWS MONEY AT SAMMY)

  16. Looks like Samdung has hired a bunch of bots to spam message boards with crap like I see here he?

    1. Honestly this is hilarious, these are samsung bots for sure, apple never gets more than 3 positive comments in a row before someone blasts them….theres spots here with 20 straight positive samdung comments give me a break. My math shows this to be an impossibility statistically.

      1. Troll much Bob

        1. Just wait until the Samdung watch is just like the pebble watch but a little fancier and does the same nonsense and brings nothing new, stock will tank. Apple will be up 1-2% that day.

      2. thanks for showing up, bob-bot.

  17. Is a smart watch the future of watches, yes, when, when they get it right. Good luck samsung, no one has done it right yet, pebble being close but still missing the mark by miles. Looking forward to this, but with uch cation and trepidition.

  18. It wont be curved glass. How many times would you have broken your watch watch if it had that huge piece of glass on it? That’s what I thought. If it comes with a screen near that size it would have to be made of that flexible screen and be touch friendly.

    1. They are ready waiting for ideas as to what they can do with their flexible displays that they can manufacture right now. I would think this would be the perfect time to launch their capabilities.

    2. It will be curved glass. My family friend is one of the chief engineers at LG. LG and Samsung both will launch curved screen products THIS year.

  19. I haven’t met a single person who has had even a slight interest in smart watches. I thought we were the generation of 1-device-does-it-all. Unless used as jewelery, I have zero inclination to wear a watch. It’s just another liability device that needs relatively frequent charging.

  20. I would get it if it just looked good.

    1. like Lori implied I am stunned that a single mom able to earn $8585 in four weeks on the computer. did you read this link www.KEP2.com

      1. So why don’t you do it? I’m stunned you talk about someone else!!!!

  21. Copying Apple yet again

    1. Yeah, because Apple was the first company out with a smart watch. Oh wait, they don’t have one out yet. So now companies can copy something that doesn’t exist yet?

      1. I asked him that same question on another website after making the same comment, he got mad and cloned me

  22. If the phone call feature is just another speaker then I’m out. The HOT watch is the only one I have seen that allows for private phone calls with the sound projecting into your palm. http://hotsmartwatch.com/kickstarter
