Nexus 7 now available from Google Play, $30-off at Staples with coupon code

Guess Google wasn’t able to enforce that soft July 30th launch date for the new Nexus 7 (2013). With an item this hot, retailers like Best Buy and Walmart wasted no time in clearing out their stock as early as today, putting them up for sale a full 4 days early. For those having trouble finding them in stores (I believe the 32GB version is nearly impossible to find), good news: the Google Play store has finally made them available for purchase. As a bonus, Staples is currently offering a $30-off all tablets coupon code with free delivery (or in-store pickup), making it seem like the better option while the promo lasts. You can buy either online, or print/show the coupon below for use in-store.

After playing with the Nexus 7 (2013) the last few days, and Google offering free ground shipping, I couldn’t resist picking up another the 32GB for myself. Might wanna save yourself the trouble of hunting down the Nexus 7 locally and just hit up the Play Store. Have at it, folks and don’t forget to visit our Nexus 7 forums to discuss rants/raves about the tablet from not only new owners, but prospective buyers as well.

  1. okay, but before i do, when is the update for the original N7 available? I’ve been checking every hour…..can i force update?

    1. They’re staged rollouts so it’ll come eventually, no point in worrying about it now. Let fate decide. :P

      1. ok :(…meanwhile..ladies and gentlemen, Conway Twitty.

      2. Anyone else having google services issues? Playstore, hangouts and all sorts of stuff is down for me and a few of my friends right now.

      1. TY sir, just what i needed!!!!

  2. LTE version, please (/me taps foot)

  3. Damn, good find on the staples coupon. Ordered.

  4. The article says you can present the coupon in stores. The coupon itself says not valid in stores…

    1. Fixed with the coupon that shows both codes. Don’t even have to print it out, just show the cashier and you’ll be good.

      1. Man, that was speedy! Thanks, Chris :)

      2. I just went to my local Staples to get a price adjustment with the coupon and they wouldn’t take it. Apparently the fine print excludes this SKU. I tried pushing it, but they wouldn’t budge.

        1. Dido! :(

          1. There are 2 “$30 off coupons” for Staples: an internal one and the one on the website. I spent 15-30 minutes arguing with the manager this morning. The one on the website is accurate. Staples never took down one of the coupons. You need to be forceful and state that it doesn’t say anything about an exclusion on the website printout.

          2. so did you get the discount afterall?

          3. Yup

  5. Both 16GB and 32GB sold out on Staples online, dang.

    1. The 32GB shows as in stock for me.

      1. really, how? i keep getting item out of stock. you sure its the new nexus 7, model nexus7-asus-2b3

        1. I just took a pic to prove it.

          1. yea, i get that but then when i place it on my cart and checkout it pops up that it is sold out. if u get that it is in stock, lucky you

          2. I was able to go through the checkout process before but it’s not letting me now.

          3. hopefully you picked one up with the discount. i emailed them to find out when stock would be refilled and if we could still use the code after the expiration date. I’ll update when they reply

    2. Just get an iPad. It’s much much better.

      1. The application quality is amazing for iOS tablets, I’ll readily admit that.

        1. Everything actually.
          iPad has better battery life,
looks waaay better than the other tablets,
          has a better camera
          has higher quality apps
has powerful speakers with great sound
          has a 128GB version,…

          1. Better battery life than what? A transformer pad and keyboard?

Looks are opinions. Yours is wrong. Especially if you’re talking about the OS.

iPad camera is 5 MP. I know the lens matters, but if you’re taking pictures with your tablet and it isn’t because you have too poor of eyesight to look at a small screen, you’re most likely a tool. Front cameras pretty much always suck.

Apps I can’t really fight, but I’ve tried an iPad and Android tablets and the quality of apps doesn’t bother me or millions of other people.

Those speakers are on the backside. I’ll take front-facing speakers any day.

Yeah, 128 GBs for $800. How about a 64 GB android tablet + 64 GB sd card for $300 less?

            Neat.

  6. Just picked mine up from Best Buy. So, so nice.

    1. price match ftw bro

      1. Great idea. Makes me wonder if they value any actual coupons from other retailers though. Thanks for the idea!

        1. Do tell if it works. I ordered from BB 2days back. Should get it when I get home today. Staples is sold out. I WANT MY $30 BUCKS :p

  7. This is torture – I have Nexus fever, yet I told myself after selling my Original Nexus 7 that I was going to wait for the New Nexus 10… But this little guy looks amazing. Someone please help me in my stressful dilemma!
    #firstworldproblems

    1. The refresh to the nexus 7 isn’t that big of an upgrade, you should wait and see what the refreshed nexus 10 brings. If I’m not mistaken the current nexus 10 is on par with the refresh 7 if not better, stands to reason that the refresh will be much better.

      1. Dammit, I know you’re right. But that doesn’t at all negate my urge to call my local Staples over and over. Nexus fever is a formidable force.

  8. Saved me about 20 bucks (still had to pay tax). Thanks Phandroid!

  9. Best Buy price matched the $30 coupon when I bought the Nexus last night. I printed the coupon and gave it to them at the register. They adjusted the price with no problems or questions. Not to shabby $199.99 for the new nexus.

  10. They have the 16 GB version in stock and ready for pickup at our Staples in Ukiah, CA-

    Nexus 7 16GB Tablet from Google™
    Item 215186
    Model NEXUS7-ASUS-2B
    $229.00
    1225 Airport Park Blvd
    Ukiah CA 95482 In Stock

    1 Reserve

That’s as of 3 AM PDT. FYI, Ukiah is in rural Mendocino County, 120 miles northwest of SF.

  11. Staples had it in stock, $211.99 after tax. Not sure if I’ll keep it tho. Video looks washed out to me, and sound is downright horrible compared to my HTC One… It is snappy though and Netflix HD is sharp… So we’ll see.

  12. I don’t see the big deal. No microsd slot. The Samsung Galaxy tab 3 8 is a much better tablet.

    1. It depends on what you want, the new Nexus 7 has a far better, full HD Screen, faster, quad core cpu, twice the RAM, better front and back cameras, wireless charging, Android 4.3 (Stock, no bloat, and no Touchwiz) NFC and will support LTE for AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. They’re both great tablets, it just depends on what is most important to you.

  13. 16GB is showing up in store today. HURRY!

    1. Make sure they will honor the coupon, someone else got denied-
      http://www.droid-life.com/2013/07/26/get-30-off-the-new-nexus-7-through-staples-with-this-coupon-code/

The coupon says in store or online, then in the notes it says it’s valid online or by phone, I think somebody goofed on the coupon.

  14. why pos win8 tablet on the coupon ms as usual bribing and forceing retailers selling windows aweful tablets that no one wants

  15. Got mine and got 30 dollars off at best buy! They price match and in my town stables is right next to best buy. So…work out great! Thanks Chris!

    1. Staples wouldn’t honor the coupon for me, but Best Buy did!

      1. Lol well I tired going to stables first but they sold out, so I didn’t have a choice. I was just going to pay full price, but I was like screw it I’ll give it a try. I’m glad it worked out for you! I’m loving my nexus 7 2013. I’m just having a hard time finding a good case for it.

  16. BestBuy in Everett, MA wouldn’t accept the Staples coupon…apparently they don’t price match coupons, but if the ad said $30 off all tablets, it would work. They had plenty of them in stock at the store.

Staples won’t carry the 16GB one in stores but I had no problem picking up the 16GB one in store. 32GB is only online.

  17. Would like to see Asus come out with their own flavor of N7 with SD lot (Google wont do this) and maybe Tegra 4 or Snap800. Would pay up to $100 more for that.

  18. Staples wouldn’t accept their coupon…and best buy only matches “actual prices, no coupons”.

    1. best buy said they’ll match the price if i can get a screenshot of the coupon applied. if anyone has a previously taken screenshot, please share.

      1. I got hold of one, lemme know if it works, i’ll try out too, if possible.

  19. I took the coupon in and they said it wasn’t coming up ont he system so couldn’t accept it. Sigh…

  20. its back in stock now, but doesn’t accept the coupon for this tab :-/

    1. It was still out of stock online when I checked today. But that coupon worked for me at the local Staples that had the device in stock.

  21. got it and it’s awesome, but the sound blows. no volume at all. tried different headsets then went to best buy to get another. great screen, but volume sucks sooo bad. compared to an s4 of htc one this is a disgrace
