Just moments after we learned the Moto X may only offer the customizing options in choosing the color palette of the device, a French site by the name of NoWhereElse was able to nab some images of a few of these colorful back plates. The seemingly legit pic shows the Moto X’s battery cover in green, turquoise, pink, and purple, with more colors no doubt coming down the pipeline.

Exactly how many more colors can we expect to be available at launch? According to the tipster who provided the leaked pics, Motorola is planning to have 16 color variations at launch. If you’re wondering which other colors, well, maybe Motorola’s new logo is giving us a clue (you’ll notice these 4 colors are a part of the rainbow circle). Remember, these battery covers can be mixed in match with the device’s trim which ABC News says will give the Moto X a nice 2-tone paint job. Sweet.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. This is a joke right?

      1. Sorry bro, but after your last 2 X Phones posts I’m not “in the mood” ;)

    1. The joke is in your hand while you take a leak

      1. Wow..and how old are we today? Weak sauce.

      2. That literally made me laugh out loud.

        1. LOLOL me too. Hilarious.

  2. I do like that they’ll be offering multiple colors up front instead of staggered releases. That wouldn’t be a reason most people would buy the phone, however. As I had previously stated, I’d be a buyer if it has the battery life similar to the Razr Maxx and some decent specs.

  3. I really cant explain how much I was wanting the option of different back case materials. oh well…another year perhaps. Though I am really ready to retire my Verizon GNex…

  4. Apple just patented these colors

  5. I like the facetious / sarcastic “Sweet” at the end of the paragraph. Because really: who cares about colorful back covers. Should’ve added “frickin” to it…

  6. Am I the only one still excited about this phone?

    1. yes

    2. Here’s the thing. It’s not going to be about specs. Do super high-end specs make or break a device? Not necessarily…

I think it’s the software that may end up being the ace up Motorola’s sleeve. Apparently, they’ve been working on some nice automation tweaks to Android and I’m excited to see what they bring.

The Moto X still has a chance.

      1. It’s all about experience and marketing. Does Apple have top of the line specs? No. Do their phones still sell like hotcakes? Absolutely. Why? Because they focus on a good user experience and market the crap out of it. If Moto can create a great seamless, simplistic experience that “just works” and follow it up with ads that elegantly show of the product and create an emotional bond to the user, then they can exploit the same formula Apple has been using for years. Is it for everyone? No, a lot of people still care about specs but the majority of smartphone customers aren’t buying phones on specs.

          What is the “trim” they’re
referring to? Do they mean the volume and power buttons? Because that’s
the only thing I’m seeing on the phone other than this piece. Does this
back piece not wrap around to the screen?

      2. Hopefully the ace up the sleeve will be that it will cost $199 off contract. Sweet phones for everyone.

      3. Thanks for pointing that out, Chris.

That’s what I thought, per the Moto/Google guy’s comments a couple of months back. I still think there’s ‘hope’.

    3. I’m with you.

    4. i hope this is only a cover for the real back cover otherwise another wishful feature (water/dust resistance) is gone…

      1. A phone which supposedly is going to be priced very low is going to be water resistant? I think not, and I hadn’t even read that anywhere. Would be a nice surprise though!

    5. no

    6. The specs arent as good as the top Android phones but i never really expected them to be.
I expected Google/Motorolla to come with something like a Nexus phone.

Pretty good specs for a good price. And the specs look good tbh, a good dualcore (more then enough CPU power tbh), a 720p screen and im guessing 2GB Ram?

This phone might be very good seller.

  7. Nvm.

  8. Lame.

  9. i don’t want no damn fluorescent/flamboyant colors on my phone.. bleh

    1. 16 is a lot of different colors. Expect a few darks in there too..

      1. That would be nice to see, hopefully the price is reasonable for this phone..

  10. Lame!

  11. Ahh such a let down…

    1. Before it comes out……..

    2. but you have an htc one? there will be no impressing you because you have a flagship

  12. Looks like fruity pebbles to me

  13. What is the “trim” they’re referring to? Do they mean the volume and power buttons? Because that’s the only thing I’m seeing on the phone other than this piece. Does this back piece not wrap around to the screen?

    1. In the Vietnam video leak, it didn’t even have a volume rocker. Did you see one somewhere?

      1. I guess I just assumed it had one. Haven’t truthfully spotted it but didn’t know I needed to look. Is there really no volume rocker? Would it be soft touch?

  14. Awesome, from the pic of the inside of the cover it certainly appears to be removable which almost certainly means a replaceable battery and makes a SD slot a little more likely :)

  15. I want bronze, like my old g1, with a silver-ish front. Nostalgia!!

  16. Good thing to have a choice of colors, even if it means the inclusion of the repulsive colors in the photos above, however the most important factors wound be
    1. How intuitive, well optimized and feature rich the software is.
    2. Availability on all carriers
    3. Topnotch specs – Snapdragon 800 64gb internal storage, excellent camera, 1080p screen with excellent sunlight legibility, topnotch battery – 4009mAh
    4. Light, solid and thin build

Hopefully, they incorporate all those features.

Sadly I’ll not be getting this phone. Waiting for the Note 3. Nothing without the S Pen (stylus) and S Note can possibly tempt me as it cannot possibly come close to the functionality of the Note without those features.

I still want the X phone to be a great success. Competition is a great thing

    1. ^ Idiot Troll!

  17. it’s just not the super phone we were hoping it would have been. it seems like it’s more for the mainstream. let’s just move on.

  18. I cant get jiggy with this sh*t

  19. I like the green but I don’t buy mid range phones.

  20. I LOVE THE COLORS. just wish they would show more instead of the girly type colors. X PHONE ALMOST HERE GUYS

  21. same colors as the motorola logo right?

  22. This is the crap Verizon gets…

  23. This is great because chicks buy a lot of phones so it’s a smart move to target them. Just hope they have good man colors too. Still, might wait for the Nex 5 ..

  24. I wonder if Motorola will correlate the color of the shell cover with the UI color scheme. It would be a nice change to the (beautiful) cyan scheme of the stock Android experience.
