It was back in January that rumors began to mount regarding Huawei and their attempt to reclaim the “world’s thinnest smartphone” crown with a follow up to the Huawei Ascend P1 S. Well, that didn’t exactly pan out and at Mobile World Congress, we got our hands on the Huawei Ascend P2, thin, but not exactly the thinnest smartphone to date. Later rebranded as “the world’s fastest smartphone” (not sure exactly how one would measure that), we thought we saw the last of Huawei’s and their dreams of an anorexic Android. We were wrong.

Say hello to the Huawei P6, a sexy little Android device that looks to reclaim Huawei’s crown for the thinnest smartphone on the market. Leaked by the boys over at @evleaks, not much on the device is known other than rumors saying it could measure in at 6.2mm thick, and carries a 4.7-inch  720p display. The device looks to be officially announced at a June 18th event in London, and we’ll be on the lookout.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. I know people always ask for bigger batteries rather than thinner profiles, but i differ. I appreciate a thinner profile over battery life. Why? Because i like slim profiles, i barely use my phone, and i have chargers at home, car, and work. Go For It Huawei!

    1. Serious question: Is there no limit to how thin you prefer? My current Galaxy Note is 11mm thick (a CD jewel case is 100mm for comparison). If the Galaxy Note were to swell to15mm thick, it would still fit in my hand and every pocket or sleeve that I currently use to carry it. i wouldn’t much care.

The thickness would have to shrink all the way down to 3mm or so before I could actually use that thinness to do something different — and put the phone in between the pages of a book or something similar, in an envelope, perhaps.

I don’t see any other practical differences between 3 and 15mm.

Or is it just the appearance that matters to you, Jordan? Is it just the aesthetics?

  2. the world’s thinnest smartphone, in width and performance.

      2. every phone needs love..

  4. I want to bend it so bad

    1. That’s what she said ;-)

  5. Look like iphone and htc1

  6. This anorexic phone fad is getting so tired.

  7. The thinner the phone, battery capacity suffers. At times these thinner phones are not as comfortable to hold..seems they gonna slide off your hand. Give me a phone about 10mm thin with a huge capacity battery that can go > one whole day any time. What good is a phone that is <7mm thin if the battery can barely go 8hrs of regular use.

    1. whoa whoa whoa whoa… WHOA!
You better slow down with yer thinkin’, friend!
Talkin’ ’bout all this here, making a phone come-fer-table to hold, and lasting more than 1 hour when used? We don’t take kindly to yer… kind… in these here parts.

Go spout yer common sense elsewhere, ya hear? Don’t let me catch ya in these here parts again!

  9. WOW really sexy phone!!! Huawei every day better find the way to the top.

    1. Yes it looks very nice, but that thinness does not look good to me and actually looks worrying. It looks like it’s going to bend way too easy.

  10. App Store? Is this running iOS? LOL!!!

    1. Chinese app store dude.
