ASUS FonePad gets priced and dated

12

Wondering when you might be able to get your hands on the 7-inch phoneblet called the ASUS FonePad? Good news — ASUS finally has those details for us to digest. The price tag should please those of you who are looking for a tablet but not looking to spend much as it will only cost you £179.99, or about $275. For that, you’re getting Intel’s 1.2GHz Atom Z2420 chipset, a 7-inch 1280×800 display, a 4,270 mAh battery, 16GB of internal storage, a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (upgradeable to Android 4.2 over time).

Folks will be able to preorder the tablet in a few days as retailers Amazon and Carphone Warehouse are slated to put it up April 12th. Stock won’t arrive until April 26th, though, so there will be a couple of weeks of painful waiting until you have it in your possession. Now all you have to do is decide whether you want to view this as an oversized phone or a tablet with phone capabilities. We hope you decide to use this thing with a Bluetooth headset either way.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Why is this much cheaper than a phone

    1. Seriously.

  2. no worries I won’t click spam and I don’t want to kill anyone.

  3. Any US release date?

  4. They need to make a 5 inch one and I’d so buy it for a phone

    1. or pray a US carrier makes the padfone available (shakes fist as the collective)

  5. If it works on Verizon’s LTE network I would get one, keep my unlimited data and use a blue tooth for the phone.

  6. Wow, that’s just crazy, soon a 10.1 inch tablet will have phone capabilities.

  7. Someone will say it looks silly/uncool/wierd/dweby/nerdy/ to use it as a phone. Ask yourself why? Because it is 7″ and not 5″? Because it is black and not pink? Because it doesn’t look like the original brick phone? If it works then it’s great. And if you want to look cool don’t wear drop ass pants with the crotch to you knees. And don’t show panti lines either big boy.

    1. Totally agree with Jon, people are so afraid of losing face especially in USA. A phone is a device to communicate.

  8. They should make the screen smaller so it can have a sharper display.
