LG Optimus G Pro unveiled: 5-inch 1080p display, 1.7GHz S4 quad-core processor, 3,000mAh battery, and more

46

It’s been rumored for more than a few weeks now and it looks like the LG Optimus G Pro has finally been unveiled this evening and in Japan no less. The device was officially announced by NTT Docomo with a handful of other devices and sports that rumored 5-inch, full HD 1080p display we’ve been hearing so much about. That means the G Pro delivers a nicely dense 440 ppi

Also on the menu is a 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor, 2GB of RAM, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a much demanded 3,000mAh battery. This makes for a device appox 1.5mm thicker than the original Optimus G (which had a 2,100mAh battery) but I’m sure the added junk in the trunk is a worthwhile trade-off.

As The Verge points out, the LG Optimus G Pro is packing a few new software enhancements along with Jelly Bean. Small widget like apps LG is calling “Slide Apps” that can be summoned atop other apps. This is similar to the ones we saw on the Sony Xperia Z during CES. When it comes to features, LG is always coming up with new tricks, this time when it comes to video. Users can record 2 videos from the front and rear facing cameras simultaneously. The smaller front facing camera video will be superimposed atop of the 13MP rear cam video, which should make for some interesting vlogging videos on YouTube. Way to go, LG.

The LG Optimus G Pro will arrive for NTT Docomo sometime in April in “Platinum White” or “Indigo Black” color variations. No word on a release for the rest of the globe. You can expect us to give it the full hands-on treatment once/if it makes an appearance at next month’s Mobile World Congress. So far, what do you guys think of the phone?

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  14. It looks really good. In glad that it doesn’t havea massive bezel. I’d prefer on screen buttons anda completely stock UI but we shall have to see. As nice as it is, I’ll probably get the nexus 4 anyway because the optimus won’t be as cheap and the android os updates will be painfully slow.

  15. I don’t know about the Japanese phone market, but if this came to the US as-is, it would content with the best phones on the market. 1.7GHz quad core and 2gb RAM and 5″ 1080p screen and Jelly Bean? Not bad, LG!

    1. Would need a comparison, but other than the big battery, I’d take the Xperia Z hands down over this, any day.
