Apex Launcher is rebuilt based on Jelly Bean, adds tons of new features

23

Apex Launcher for Android has just gotten a big upgrade in the Google Play Store. The entire launcher has been rebuilt based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and it will still work for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. You’ll get all the native Jelly Bean launcher features such as a desktop that automatically rearranges, a performance boost, and more.

New features added by the Android Does team are also plentiful. Take a look at this long list of changes you can expect to find upon button the app:

New features
* Option to switch to tablet UI
* Custom drawer grid settings
* Activity animation options
Other improvements and bugfixes
* Improved vertical drawers
* Custom widget picker (requires JB or root)
* Unlimited drawer tabs (pro)
* Fixed paid themes under JB
* Many misc. bugfixes
* Updated translations

The update also fixes a lot of bugs that users may have experienced with previous versions, but you can always find — at the very least — minor bugs in any given up. Find it in the Play Store here, and be sure to upgrade to the Pro version for extra features (and to support some hard working developers).

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

Pantech Vega R3 is another beast of a 5 inch smartphone, but do you care?

  1. They released 2 versions of this update actually – the first one just FC’d and would not open at all. I even had completely removed and reinstalled and still nothing. Not too long ago they re-released this update with a working version. Much better.

    1. yeah I sent a email to Dev and he replied with the last apk that worked and a statement saying use this for now until we update thanks.the Dev is on point in my eyes works great

  2. I use Nova and I’ve never experienced a single bug on my Gnex or Nexus 7. Nova is also ahead of the game on the 4.1 infrastructure. Can someone name a single featured that makes Apex worth a look? Don’t mind trying new stuff but I like there to be a good reason. thanks!

    1. I personally like it more than nova on my N7. I use nova on my phone though. I feel like Apex is spaced a bit better and is a smidge less clunky on the N7.

      1. I liked Apex better as well, but after I lost all my folders and what not this morning with that force close update I switched to Nova and spent a bit resetting that desktop. So for now I am just going to stick with Nova.

    2. The Nova update a few days ago had bugs. My screens re-arranged themselves and widgets disappeared. They put out a fix shortly after.

  3. Unfortunately the initial update screwed up the entire launcher for me. After updating earlier, it force closes every single time I hit the home button.

    After updating it again, works like a charm.

    1. It was a horrible way to start off my Monday morning. Mine was constantly fc’ing.

  4. Awwww yeah boi! (yes I did get that excited)

  5. I updated this morning and it made my phone useless constantly foreclosing. Had to wipe and reinstall my Rom. Beware!. Anyone know if they fixed it?

  6. I could have sworn they did this already.

    1. I believe the 4.1 rewrites were beta to this point.

  7. And it blew up on my phone, and many others according to the comments in the playstore.

    1. As other said, the 2nd update seems to have fixed the issue.

  8. The beta version has had this since the day after the Jellybean source was released.

  9. oh yeah and it works really fast on my nexus running JB.

  10. this ruined the app drawer on my tablet >_>

  11. Did they make flipping through homescreens faster? The fastest apex had was so slow, which is why I use nova launcher now, but apex would be just as good if they offered faster transitions.

    1. Seems pretty fast to me.

  12. What is “activity animation”?

  13. Is there any way to have the phone and txt icons show how many calls and txt’s are missed?

    1. I don’t know if Nova will do it — but there are app widgets that do what you are looking for… Gmail Unread Counter, etc… https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.alexanderblom.gmailunreadcount2&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsInNlLmFsZXhhbmRlcmJsb20uZ21haWx1bnJlYWRjb3VudDIiXQ..

  14. Started using this last night and it looks great. As Ben said below though it’s not as fast flipping through screens as Nova though.
