Google Glass sashays down New York Fashion Week runway

16

A major hurdle for Google Glass to overcome is convincing people they won’t look silly donning the upcoming headgear throughout their daily lives. It certainly helps Google’s cause to see prototype units make an appearance at New York Fashion Week. But that wasn’t the only reason Glass could be spotted as the accessory of choice for those modeling Diane von Furstenberg’s latest designs.

The futuristic set of eyewear was also being used to record video for use in an upcoming short film documenting von Furstenberg’s creative process through the behind-the-scenes goings on at a high-profile fashion show. The film will be called “DVF through Glass” and will debut on Google+ on September 13th.

The whole charade smells more like a marketing ploy on Google’s behalf rather than any true movement by  a big-time designer to incorporate Google’s experimental gadget into her line. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad marketing ploy. The stunt should bring some attention to Google Glass from a completely different cultural segment, and exposing the concept to fashion-oriented minds is a move that will certainly help to establish the project.

  1. Are you thinking what I’m thinking?

…oooOOO the must-have glasses app (in 2015) will be an augmented reality app that “fixes” clothing by making everything a fashionable skin-color with PEACHY dualtones and TITanium trim :) OOOooo…

    1. I’d love an app like that!
Maybe that will shut those stupid people up who have nothing better to do than criticize someone based on their taste in clothes.
Don’t like what people wear, then use the app and never speak of it again!

    2. Trust me, you don’t want to see everyone in the nude.
EDIT: Wait…that wasn’t what you were thinking? uh oh

      1. Hah… true… so:

        1.1 UPDATE:
        – Added option to auto-detect and keep fatties clothed
        – Added option to overlay your girlfriend/wife/mistresses/other face over “butterfaces”
        – Updated uglyface detection algorithm to account for unibrow
        – Burka ladies always can only show a little ankle now (I don’t want to die of a Fatwā)
        – etc

  2. I’m sure this model greatly appreciates the most awkward pose being posted on articles.

  3. Google glass looks positively elegant next to those other crazy things, those would go great with my future steam punk costume. Also that woman needs to stand up straight, hurts my back just to look at her.

      1. MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATRE! Oh my god it’s been years, I forgot about that show. Love it.

  4. Compared to what glasses they usually consider “looking good”, Project Glass really looks much better^^

  5. When did the kardassians go blond? Lol nice

  6. Anorexia on parade, ugly.

  7. Those models will wear any junk if they’re paid. Google, it does look silly!

    1. The glasses are fine. It’s the clothes and lack of muscle tone that bother me.

  8. anorexia is never a pretty sight… :(

  9. Google, you’re better than this.

  10. WOW! Those seem so cool now. :O
