Acer CloudMobile Goes Up For Pre-Order – Qualcomm S4 Processor, HD Display, and NFC For Only £285

After winning a design award at iF 2012, it seems the unique and sexy looking Acer CloudMobile is finally ready to make it’s debut, finding itself up for pre-order with online retailer Expansys UK.

Acer’s latest entry into the Android smartphone wars features high-end specs, but at a modest price. I’m sure you know the spiel by now, you’ll find a Qualcomm S4 processor, 4.3-inch 12800×800 HD non-Pentile display, 1GB of RAM, 8MP camera with zero shutter lag, NFC and running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Build quality is top notch with soft touch plastic on the backing, coupled with stainless steel aluminum accents. Oh, and don’t forget: all of this for only £285 (roughly $352) off-contract.

Let’s just hope once/if this comes stateside, it can keep a similar low-low price point. Maybe Acer will even throw in some Jelly Bean while they’re at it. Look good to anyone else?

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Galaxy Nexus is a better choice for the price point/specs, I would think.

    1. Not really, it is pentile screen, and has dual core OMAP processor which is slower than the S4, the screen PPI is less since it is a bigger screen, and has a lesser quality camera.

    2. As much as i love my galaxy nexus this thing has it beat on processor power / camera / display (non-pentile + higher pixel density at 342 ppi), they’re equal on price both at 350 U.S dollars. The galaxy nexus is still like the sexiest looking device in my opinion.

  2. I love Acer products, and this phone looks nicely designed.

I hope more companies start to release contract free phones at cheaper prices, so we can get some real competition in the mobile market that has been tainted by carriers and their contracts.

  3. Looks good but with on screen buttons, the screen needs to be a bit bigger. Maybe 4.5 inches.

    1. Could just get rid of the onscreen buttons and use an app like LMT to control the UI

  4. Needed a 4.5inch screen, but otherwise it’s a good value phone.

  5. btw 285 Euros is equal to 350 U.S. dollars just saying lol, but damn for a 720p display, 8mp camera, s4 chip, NFC and al that good stuff for only 350 ? >.> its so damn tempting

    1. Thanks, punched it in as british pounds.

But yeah, this is almost like a more powerful Nexus — only without the support from Google. Same price though.

    2. Considering the way things are priced in the US compared to Europe, if we simply change the Euros sign to a $ sign, then it’s an even better deal!

  6. 12,800 x 800??? That’s a 16:1 aspect ratio. What will Hollywood and Silicon Valley come up with next, Chris? I think you may need to recheck that lol

    1. Suuuuuuper wide screeeeeen xD

  7. Good phone for the price! Hopefully this sort of thing becomes the norm.

  8. Would love to see this on T-Mob with some really good Dev support. (AOKP, BB, CM10, etc…)

This phone would *fly* on AOSP JB.

  9. That price is including tax so it’s a little cheaper than the nexus.

  10. I want it!

  11. lol, why not just get a nexus, that’s all i’m saying about this, your better off it brings nothing interesting enough to the table verses the nexus in reality. How does this phone compete with top phones for next year, it doesn’t. I understand creating a low budget phone, but why not just get the nexus, it’s a good phone and looks better. Sorry Acer, another miss in my opinion.

  12. i love too…see some http://www.eggsstudio.com

  13. To see another device with those on-screen button is so sexy. Lol.

Vanilla Android OS, does it come with that?

  14. 12800×800? That’s a hell of a display.
