Users of the 10-inch Toshiba Thrive (Toshiba’s hunky slab with full sized USB and HDMI ports) are getting an early visit from the ice cream man today. Toshiba revealed the good news on their forums, although the device wasn’t originally scheduled to receive the update to Android 4.0.4 until the later half of this year. The update adds improvements to video, camera and connectivity strength, which are no doubt welcomed changes. Updating is as simple as jumping into the tab’s special “Service Station” application and checking for updates.
Owners of the 7-inch, thicker-than-a-snicker, Thrive will have to wait a little longer. Oh, and given that Toshiba is just now rolling out ICS for their tabs, chances for an update to Jelly Bean is next to nil (but we still have our fingers crossed).
Thanks, Greg!
You know the thrive isn’t a bad tab.
Don’t have one but played with one and wasn’t bad at all, liked all the ports.
I couldn’t agree with you more. What I really love (and i just figured this out) is that when you plug a wireless mouse into the USB port I can use my thrive as a mini PC from all the way across the room. i just throw it in the HDMI dock connected to my Samsung Smart 55″ TV and BOOM I got a 55″ Toshiba Thrive in my living room!!! I was playin Angry birds Space last ngiht before passin out on the couch. Love my Android toys!
Thanks Phandroid! You just made my night. My thrive is downloading it now!
Updating and running. Leaps and bounds better. Media Player app is a night and day difference. Everything works great as far as I can make out.
“thicker-than-a-snicker”, nice
HOLY FREAKIN SHIZNIT BATMAN…IT’S ICE CREAM SANDWICH!!! Ok Android WORLD….I just need to say that I LOVE Android and now I love Toshiba again. I truthfully thought they just gave up on the 10.1 Thrive but i KNEW that it could handle ICS so I am soooo happy that I finally got the update. And no needing to flash back to stock or wait like JellyBean on my G Nexus (which i LOVE as well) but all I had to do is read this article….stop hyperventalating and click the Check update button and my old as crap 10.1″ Toshiba Thrive is downloading ICS 4.0.WHATEVER as we speak! the funny thing is that i was just thinking how BORED I was of ICS on my Galaxy Nexus but now that I’m getting it on my Thrive i fell like a new man. I can’t stop typing I’m so excited. ok…gotta go check my update. i’ll let ya’ll know how it is!!! YES!
Grats man. When my wifi Xoom moved from HC to ICS, it was like going from a Ford to a Ferrari.
