Some Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners have already been blessed with the Android 4.0.4 OTA after a long, long wait. If you are not hyped up about the newest update, then this might get your senses tingling. Some users have been reporting that Google Wallet has become officially available for Verizon’s Nexus device, and it can now be downloaded straight from the Google Play Store.
Kellen from Droid-Life and one of his readers have already done the update. Both are said to be running Android 4.0.4 stock without root access. But it seems like other users with the update have been unable to get Google Wallet using the same process.
“What’s odd is that both myself and our reader are as stock as it gets (I’m not even rooted at the moment) and it installed without issue. – Kellen, Droid-Life
Regardless, if you are one of the lucky first to get the OTA update, you should head over to the Google Play Store and try to get it.
Verizon has not always been very fond of Google Wallet, making us believe that the company is simply giving preference to its own payment service – Isis. We are not sure if Verizon has given Google the green light, or if Google has simply found another way to make things work, but we sure hope Google Wallet for Big Red’s Galaxy Nexus is here to stay.
Try it and let us know how it works out for you!
Update
I have just updated my Verizon Galaxy Nexus and can confirm that (like most of you) Google Wallet is still not available straight from the Google Play Store. We are not sure why Kellen and his source were able to do this, but you can be sure that we will be keeping our eyes open for more details.

I have the 4.0.4 update as of this morning and am unable to to get it to install. It does not show up as an install app on my phone and when I go through the web interface my Galaxy Nexus is greyed out and a pop up says that it’s not available for my carrirer.
I already have it installed from sideloading but when I run it, it says the version is out of date. It gives me the option of updating from the Play Store but when I try to it says it’s not available in my country or carrier.
I updated gnex to 4.0.4 this morning and play store reports my country or carrier doesn’t support wallet. Verizon argh.
got 4.0.4 this morning (in baltimore, md) Google wallet no dice
i have VZ but gwallet doesn’t show up on my phone in play

Make sure you clear your data from within the app before you do any type of from change. I am one of the unlucky few that have received the secure element error.
What were you doing? I have had no problems, Wallet was working then today I tried the Play link and get the Card Is Unavailable…
edit:
I tried restoring a backup and clearing wallet.
No luck for me. Wallet is still invisible to me in Play, even though it’s loaded and working properly on my Nexus. However, the workaround method of loading it through ICS browser appears to still work, as I just updated my installation to the current version. And thankfully, the 4.0.4 update didn’t kill it.
It worked from online website but not the Google play app. I’m running stock ICS 4.0.4 locked and unrooted.
side loaded the app. Even after the update (4.0.4) and when open Google Wallet, it states update available and unable to update app via Google Play App. When i try the ICS and/or Chrome (laptop) version update its grey’d out. Anyone any tricks?
Color me confused. I’ve been running Google Wallet on my non-rooted Verizon Galaxy Nexus for months now. I thought everyone could get it…
Edit: Oh, I see, it’s not listed in the phone’s Play store, and I’m not running the latest version (I have 1.1-R57v4). I could have sworn the phone’s market had listed it for a while though.
To think this was an issue that I was no longer mad about! :o
Edit again: I just easily updated my Google Wallet to the latest version simply by installing it from the Play store web site. I didn’t even have to remove the old version.
I did the same thing as you but now I am unable to connect to the wallet
service. When I click on one of my cards it says that Citi or Google
Prepaid is Unavailable. Are you actually able to “Use” google wallet? Thank
I am with you. I have had this working in many ways before today. Today I downloaded from web and bam: Google
Prepaid is Unavailable. Even tried clearing wallet and restoring a previous backup. Hopfully I didn’t fry the secure element.
I received the Verizon 4.04 update yesterday. I had Google Wallet previously installed (stock ROM no root) first from side loading it in December then updating it via the browser trick. However, with the recent re branding of Android Market to Play, the browser trick stopped working for updates. When 4.04 was applied I went into my apps from the Play Store app on the phone (g wallet does not show up) and then looked at all apps I’ve install and tried to update wallet from my phone via the Play Store app….I could see the update button but the install failed. I then went to the play store via the browser and was able to select my nexus that way and the update applied.
I did the same thing as you but now I am unable to connect to the wallet service. When I click on one of my cards it says that Citi or Google Prepaid is Unavailable. Are you actually able to “Use” google wallet?
Yes, I use the Citi card (not pre paid). Worked fine at Home Depot and McDonald’s this weekend. Cheers
How are you guys able to update the app using play store website. Instructions? Thanks.
Unrooted Galaxy Nexus, Verizon, 4.0.4.
nothing is straightforward about this phone. after months of railing, i forced the upgrade last night and i do have 4.0.4 by clearing the google frameworks…why didn’t anyone correct that? google wallet not in my play store, just looking now, something called ‘get google wallet” comes up
readers may be amused that this kind of frameworks solution is like something from mac in the old mac days when you had to scour boards for fixes! that’s funny since the android is the current mac-tagonist! lol
You can install wallet by by using web browser to do app search. And have it bring you to play store link
Once installed it will show up in play store my apps, using all app tab
I have Verizon GNex with 4.0 4. I did a Google search for Google wallet apk found the latest version downloaded it and installed and working with no problems.
