Koushik Dutta Teases New Touch-Based Recovery

13

Our friend Koushik Dutta has posted a new teaser video to his Google+ page showing a touch-based recovery that he’s been working on. This isn’t quite like the touch-based recovery we saw before that simply had on-screen buttons for navigating. Koush is going all out with the project, implementing the ability to scroll and select list items, all via touch and without the use of buttons, virtual or otherwise. While we’re not sure how far off we are from seeing a stable release and while we don’t know how many devices this will be intended for we’re glad to see that progress is looking good. Check it out in the video above. [Thanks Micah!]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Wow this is neat! Personally I prefer using the hardware buttons to scroll on the current recovery, a whole lot easier for me. This may change that though

  2. The other version of the touch recovery for the Galaxy Nexus has this option as well as the buttons. Swiping up and down scrolls, right enters/selects, and left goes back. Glad to see Koush is getting ready to incorporate this.

  3. I have been holding out for this over EXT4

    1. That makes absolutely no sense….  EXT4 is a file system, not recovery software…

      1. Bzzzt!  Try again.

Been using the touch version for a couple weeks now.

        1. Oh.  4EXT, that makes more sense.  :-)  I remember a touch recovery floating around th i9000 boards damn near a year ago….

  4. TWRP ftw.

  5. They filmed that with a 4K-capable camera? AND youtube offers 4K-quality as an option? blew my mind twice. :)

    1. Well, it was shot on an HD camera, then it was turned, so it had a vertical pixel size of 1920, but a letter box on both sides with the 1080 in the middle. At least that’s my theory.

  6. Because, you know, TWRP 2.0 is unbearable with the need for the volume rocker.

    (Inherent sarcasm)
Too bad TWRP doesn’t support more phones, it’s worlds ahead of ClockWorkMod in terms of UI.
