Sony Xperia S Will Feature Anti-Stain Coating and Fast Charging Ability

23

This phone just continues to get better and better. The Sony Xperia S — which is currently #1 on my “sexiest phone of 2012” — is proving that it’s not just a 1-trick pony. PocketPC.ch has revealed a couple of new, less talked about features being introduced on the device that will help set it apart from the pack.

First, it seems the Xperia S will feature a an anti-stain shell. While this will help repel dirt and oil and keep the device looking new, those that have seen it in action have described a demonstration where a rep drew on the device with a pen, and was able to wipe off the marking with a single finger swipe. Neat.

Second — and this one is a whole lot more useful — the Sony Xperia S will come with a “fast charging” ability that gives the device 1 hour of talk time with a single 10 minute charge. 30 minutes is all it will take to charge up the Xperia S to 80%, at which point the device will lower power intake, slowly charging until 100% (for battery health).

Sony is definitely stepping up their game introducing new Android smartphones that not only look fantastic, but have the brains to go along with them. Did I mention how sexy the Xperia S is?

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. If only this would come in the size of the note and to tmobile….

  2. I hope it comes with ICS.

    1. Unfortunately it comes with 2.3 out of the box.  Sony says 2Q12 for ICS.  I’ll be keeping my money.

  3. How big of a battery will this thing have? If its only 1000mah that’s not that impressive.

    1. LOL! Definitely not that low… hahaha
It’s the normal amount. 1750 mAh.

  4. T-Mobile you need to get this phone!!

  5. If Sony gives me a quad-core I’ll be giving them my money.

Side note: does the S have physical keys or are they on-screen like the GNex? I can never tell.

Edit: Just realized that the capacitive keys are on the see through area on the phone. God this is an attractive phone; eat your heart out Apple.

    1. The buttons are ever so slightly above the transparent bar, only the silk screening for them is on the bar.

FYI That transparent bar is the aerial AND it lights up for notifications. If I can change the colour depending on app then Sony have themselves a deal!

  6. The charging feature seems the most useful to me. There have been many times when I was in the middle of being out and my battery dies. If I could plug it in for just 10 mins at a friend’s house or in the car or at Starbucks and it’ll buy me another hour, that’s all that’s needed.

  7. my last 2 Sony phones barely lasted a year each… I’m still quite reluctant to go with them again..
My HTC Desire has lasted 2 years and has more fight left in it.

    1. I’m still using my k800i, for almost 6 years and the battery just started to lose its’ charge….I dropped a metal weight on it and the only thing that doesn’t work is the speaker phone.  Before this phone I’ve had several other sony ericsson phones and loved them all!!

  8. hmm no source… that’s bad…
the real source was an exclusive call with SE Product manager at http://www.pocketpc.ch and NOT xperiablog…
I was the one who had this call…

    1. thanks for the correction :)

  9. too bad their skin sucks and well it’s SONY. f them.

  10. So let me get this right, a non-replaceable battery which will get screwed even quicker due to a fast charging facility?!

    1. no. you havent read the article.  it fast charges to 80% then trickle charges to 100%  so perfectly safe.

  11. Cool but it is going to have a case anyways.

  12. Does anyone actually know if there will be T-Mobile USA bands?

  13. Sony needs to bring one of these bad boys to big red. Bought a rezound off craigslist so I could save my contract for one. Have never had an issue with any sony product, I’m guessing the camera on these will be the bees knees.

  14. 80% charge in 30 minutes is pure win. Huge selling point and all other manufacturers should strive to achieve this if they won’t improve batteries.

  15. Sony next phone should be a transparent body!!!

  16. Finally, a tablet I can eat pasta off of!

  17. Simple math reveals about four hours of battery life…not so good, I’ll stick with Galaxy Nexus…
