OG Droid Receiving Android 2.2.3 Update with Security Fixes

16

A couple of weeks back we learned that Verizon and Motorola had a new security update in testing for the original Motorola Droid, and this morning we are hearing the first reports of the update arriving on users’ handsets. The new software (build number FRK76) brings the Droid’s Android version to 2.2.3 and deals with handling “rogue/unauthorized certificates” through the default web browser. Users won’t notice any changes in functionality or appearance.

  1. Glad to see they are still updating this outdated version of android. If you own an OG droid and do not have it rooted, ROMed and overclocked I am sorry for you.

  2. The roll out started last week. I received my OTA to this build right before thanksgiving.

  3. engadget is saying dec 11th release date for GN.  cant believe you guys dont have this story

  4. Keep the update.  I am ready to turn mine into a DroidTouch for my daughter.  Give me the Nexus Prime.

  5. Got mine this morning.

  6. I’ll stick with CM7, thanks.

  7. Rollout did indeed start last week.  See http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/450433-security-update-being-tested.html and there is a discussion going on how it breaks root.  You can re-root the phone, but not using Zerg rush (currently), only manual methods and SuperOneClick and rageagaintthecage.

  8. I got this like a week ago already.

    1. Me too.

    2. I got this months ago.

  9. got this almost 2 weeks ago. winner?

  10. Old news , got it several days ago . In fact Peter Alfonso had it up on his site before the OTA was released . ASOP is FRK76C .

  11. I’m glad to see that they’re still supporting it, but to be honest, I don’t know why ANYONE would still have a stock ROM on the OG Droid. It was the easiest phone to hack that I’ve ever had.

    1. So I should hack it because it is easy?  The stock ROM works fine for me.  I’ve had no problems that needed a custom ROM to fix and no need to run the risk (no matter how low it is) of messing up my primary phone and development device.

Contrary to this self-selected community, the vast majority of phone users do not install custom ROMs on their devices.

  12. Bah, I only want 2 updates:
    1.  The first stops all the gliches in my OG Droid, b/c it feels like its on it’s last leg doing lots of weird things.
    2.  The second update tells me that the Nexus was ordered on my behalf and in the mail, with an official date of delivery

  13. why can’t it just get gingerbread? even cheaper phones then the og droid have gingerbread!
