Happy Holidroid Contest: Quick Pic Challenge

76

You’ll want to sign up for AndroidForums.com for today’s contest challenge AND future challenges. Because DISQUS allows comment editing without timestamps, we’re unable to assuredly identify a winner using the Phandroid commenting system for time-based contests. Make sure you read each contest post carefully to make sure you’re doing it right!

If you’re unsure what this whole “Holidroid Contest” thing is all about, be prepared to get excited. From November 24th through December 25th, Phandroid is giving away a Kindle Fire every single day along with other great prizes like the Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Tabs, JAMBOX, SmarTouch Gloves, Android Phones, Android T-Shirts, Seidio Vouchers and more. Read our announcement post for details.

Who has won so far?

We’ve received a bunch of E-Mails from contestants wondering if they’ve won. We contact winners directly, but from now on we’ll put the previous day’s winner in each contest post so that you folks know for sure who the winner is. We’re also asking winners to take pictures of themselves with their box-o-goodies and will post them on the site in the New Year.

Yesterday’s winner was Adryan Maldonado who, hilariously enough, was the winning random comment with the following post:

Winners from the first 5 days of the contest were:

  • Nov. 24th: @LeopardOBX on Twitter
  • Nov. 24th: Corey Jones on Facebook
  • Nov. 24th: Gadiel Tamayo Cruz on G+
  • Nov. 25th: Ilan Sean
  • Nov. 26th: @knowname on twitter
  • Nov. 27th: Marc Selwan
  • Nov. 28th: AndrewDG76

So what’s up for grabs in today’s contest?

Amazon Kindle Fire

The Kindle Fire could be this holiday’s hottest product: at only $199 it’s not only one of the most affordable Android tablets, it’s also one of the best. That’s a killer combination. With a beautiful UI, great battery life, carefully curated apps/games, and an amazing array of media options thanks to Amazon’s Digital Content Ecosystem… the Kindle Fire is a sure win. Good luck winning one in our contest, but at only $199 it’s probably worth buying one just in case!

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

Everyone seems to be craving Samsung Android devices these days, and for good reason. Samsung makes some of the best hardware out there, coupled with great software integration, and the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus are two great examples of Samsung’s industry leading products. These devices were sponsored directly by Samsung, thanking our readers and forum members for their excitement, interest, and support over the past year. With a 7-inch screen, 1.2GHz dual core processor, 1GB RAM, MicroSD slot, camera that records in 720p HD, and screen that displays in 1080p HD, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is a high end alternative to the Kindle Fire… and you can win BOTH in our contest!

Isotoner SmarTouch Gloves

Every single holiday season these SmarTouch smartphone gloves are consistently one of my favorite gift giving items. They eloquently solve one of the most fundamental problems a tech lover faces: using your device in cold weather. Wearing gloves usually prevents your touchscreen from working: take your phone out, take your glove off, use your phone, hand gets gold, shove phone in pocket, rush to get glove on. NO MORE! Isotoner’s SmarTouch gloves, designed in my colors and sizes for both men and women, has technology that passes the electrons your body gives off, through the gloves, onto the capacitive screen and allowing it to work. VOILA! Seriously. It works. Trust me. Try it… and you’ll love them forever.

Seidio $30 Voucher

With so much smartphone use comes battery drain. Thankfully, Seidio makes some awesome extended batteries that fit many smartphones, allowing you to get longer battery life with the same device. No more toting around a charger everywhere you go: just snag a Seidio and call it a day! Seidio also makes cases, holsters, and other great accessories for your smartphones. Check them all out here.

  1. Working in downtown Chicago, I’d have to walk a long way to find a stop sign.

    1. Probably don’t want to stand outside with a bare foot today either.

  2. I really like today’s contest. I would’ve totally done this one if I had a stop sign closer by to my workplace.

    1. same here….work on a corporate campus…no stop signs for at least 1/2 mile (let alone having time between meetings to go find one)

  3. Ugh

  4. Nice one.. But its 11:35 pm in India and my college guards will not allow to go out, so can’t perform this task… Well, will wait for tomorrow’s contest :)

  5. Great Contest Idea! damn it I don’t have a stupid spoon at work!

  6. someone else can have this one.

  7. This is going to require someone else to take the pic.  :(

  8. Too bad I’m at work lol… funniest contest EVER!!! :D

  9. Im confused how are you supposed to answer this, can anyone provide a link please to where the contest is on android forums

    1. ^ read the rules above^

  10. too bad, the only person at home with me doesnt feel like helping me :(

  11. uhm Simon Says anyone?

  12. Hahaha! I love this contest!  You should do more like this :)

PS…I bet a lot more people love this contest but they’re all out holding spoons over their heads while hopping on one foot and taking their shoe off :)

  13. CBreze here

  14. The one day my gf doesnt spend the nite, you guys ask to do this 2 person task. FML.

    1. hahahahahahaha, thanks for the laugh, good job~ you deserve a win

    2. So close. Too bad the spoon isn’t above your head.

      1. NOOOOOOOOOO!

…and you can’t really read the sign. Dam ballpoint pen.

My username is andpol in case Phandroid decides it’s good enough… :(

    3. lol thanks for posting that here good laugh

  15. Ok that was a crazy one.  I’m amazed at how quickly people can get stuff like this done.

  16. awesome contest idea

  17. Got it. Can I win?

    1. Looks like you should be the winner.  The first poster is not holding the spoon over his head.

      1. You had to have posted this on the forum to win…

    2. I should have read directions better…congrats!

      1. “You’ll want to sign up for AndroidForums.com for today’s contest challenge AND future challenges. ummm yeeaaaahhhh

        1. Looks like we both missed out.

    3. ha I messed up. Might wanna read the directions more carefully next time. Bummer. I’m determined to win one of these packs

    4. Nice try!

  18. This showed up in Google Reader at 1:12, by which time a few people had already shot their spoons. Definitely more creative this time though.

  19. Nice one. ha.
I didn’t even see yesterday’s contest and two days ago it erased my post every time.  Oh well.

  20. Nice contest, but recent hip surgery does not allow for me to hold on to 2 things and stand on one foot. Too sad, so sorry.

  21. Great contest.  The fun ones are better!

  22. What gives you say AndrewDG76 won on the 28th but there is no poster with that name??

  23. Nicce contest, I like it, although I wouldn’t know where to find a stop sigg anywhere near my house…..also I bet I’m too late already

  24. You know it’s bad when you look up the word “above” on dictionary.com to see if it means higher than (it does) or if it has to be directly “above”/over the head. Looks like redhawk should win. My neighbors were staring at me funny, walking around with one shoe, a spoon, and a camera looking for street signs! Almost had that one!

  25. nah, man i’ll just buy me the damm things your giving away before i go out in the cold to do this. I got dignity.

  26. how do I leave a comment with my forum username? when I leave the forum page and come to this post, there isn’t a way to comment. it tells me to login using disqus.

  27. hahaha thankfully someone won before I had to go outside in the 43 degree weather.
    Nice job to the winner!

  28. I’m at work. QQQQQQQ.

  29. No fair, I only have one foot.

  30. man, that is one crazy contest. What next?

    1. I ran out thinking I could get in on time, then I noticed that the entries are all posted in the forums, not here.  Man, people are quick to look crazy for free stuff.  lol (myself included)

  31. I guess I lose since I actually have a job during the day. Boss would not look kindly on me running outside to take a picture with a shoe off and a spoon above my head holding a sign. At least workers comp will cover the costs of me buying your prizes.

  32. Way to make it entertaining.  Separate the men from the boys and see who really wants it!

  33. More contest should be like this.

  34. “Take a picture in front of the stop sign, holding the sign you just made, holding the spoon above your head, with one bare foot in the air (other foot needs to have a shoe or sock)”

The Rules don’t actually mention that you actually need to be IN the picture.
…so theoretically, any photo that looks like its near an intersection should qualify.

The only hard part is taking a photo while holding 2 different things :P

  35. awesome idea for a contest :)

  36. I’m feeling the heat of FIRE!

  37. So basically if you have no job and have plenty of free time on your hands to keep refreshing the page every 10 seconds….you might be a winner. NICE!!
But being a fan of the site for over 3 years doesnt really matter here :(

please have the contests at reasonable hours where most people are not at work OR in bed…

    1. Well, when we have them in the morning some people still complained. Then we had one at night and they still complained. It’s tough to please everyone but we’re doing our best =)

      1. Sadly I wasnt paying attention. Im at work with nothing but free time. Sadly probably could have won it…but. Alas I wasnt paying attention

      2. It’s tough to please everyone when your giving away free stuff……oh wait……..?

      3. The best time would be ideally in the afternoon for any contest as thats when people are getting off work or out of school to relax and take a look over at the phandroid.com website.

  38. If I may, I’d like to make a suggestion that I think would probably level the playing field a bit better and make it so more people can get in on the action and make the contests a bit more fun. How about maybe announcing beforehand at what time the next contest will be at so more people can try to tune in at the same time and have an even chance of winning? Maybe even just update the original announcement post so that there’s not two separate posts about the same thing? Not all of us are on the computer/phone at all times and sometimes we see the posts too late to do anything about it. I would have loved to have a chance at this contest but was 30 minutes too late. :-( I would really love to win a cool contest like this at some point in life, or at least something better than that contest I won back in middle school where we had to fling pickles as far as we could, using our mouths…….. :-P

I also understand if this would be too much work for just a contest, but I figured I’d give it a shot.

    1. Contests shouldn’t be easy they should be challenging.

  39. OK, so I’m entered now for today, right?

  40. So, the best idea for a christmas gift is post-it notes?

  41. Yeaaaaa buddy

  42. i need a new phone for cheap………come to me baby…………..im calling fo r youuuuuuuuuuu

  43. Im so mad i was @ work. my neighbor’s would of had a blast watching me run out the house to the corner stop sign.

  44. That comment was funny.

  45. Attention Phandroid administrators:
There is a light pole with a penis spray painted onto it down the street from me.
Tomorrow can the contest be,”be the first to take a photo of a light pole with a penis spray painted to it”?
thanks for your time and consideration.

    1. Please delete this after you read it so we can not give other players an unfair advantage.

      1. Actually for a Kindle Fire I may go spray painting a sign with fallic-ish symbols if that gets a win.

        1. Ok lookI would be willing to give you the gloves…

  46. Really! Complaining about free stuff ? Smh.

  47. These contests have been pretty weak.  They need to make a challenge that doesn’t take seconds to complete.  If you saw this contest just pop up, and you’re near a stop sign.  It’d take a minute to complete.

If these challenges were actually… CHALLENGING.. then maybe they’d get some worth out of these contests.make it more time consuming, puzzles, creative works (songs, art, programming, etc), or requires an online hunt, or a combination of all these and more.  not who can reply to a simple task the quickest.. how bout have an android t-shirt logo design concept contest, and you pick the best at the end of the day (not the first to be posted..)

  48. @google-e817dd73b33f68c0f4f7d9aaae07dd8e:disqus Working in downtown.. my classmate’s sister-in-law made $222189 so far just working on the laptop for a few hours. Go to this web site and read more…http://ho.io/sjh72w3–q

  49. Ok…I’m up all night, send one now.

  50. What a minute…I WON?!!!! WOOHOOO!!! But wait…I don’t see a contact email. does this mean you’re considering throwing in a Galaxy Nexus too? ;-D :-P
