Verizon Extends Holiday Return Window to January 15

18

Verizon already gave customers buying a new phone this holiday season quite the gift when they extended their typically 14-day return window all the way to to January 9th for purchases made between November 15th and December 28th. If that wasn’t long enough, Big Red has tacked on a few extra days pushing the date back to January 15th for returns. The policy has been expanded to allow givers and receivers the chance to return gifts, but if you have been waiting for a phone such as the Galaxy Nexus and want to take the new Droid RAZR or HTC Rezound for a spin in the meantime, this is the perfect opportunity.

  1. Great, but…..I’m not giving Verizon 35 bucks to put the phone back on the shelf when I give it back.

    1. Trust me they don’t go back on the shelf, they get sent out to be refurbished and saved for people that need warranty replacements. an opened phone can NEVER be resold at a corporate store. System will NOT allow it.

      1. Yup. True story.

  2. Very tempted to rent the ReZound or RAZR because my Eris sucks… but paying to turn it back in is a hard pill to swallow. Just release the GNEX!

  3. You are about a week late phandroid.

  4. How will this work for those that do the Amazon Penny Sale?

    1. Don’t believe the two would work together.

  5. That’s exactly what I did. I must say the razr is very nice buy the Nexus just looks too good…

  6. Had an OG Droid and it was barely hanging on day in and day out… Went in earlier this week and picked up the Rezound as a placeholder for my Gnex because of this return deal from verizon. The Rezound is a great phone and compared to the OG droid its the greatest phone that ever could be.  Glad to see the extension from Verizon to the 15th especially if they keep pushing back the unannounced release date of the GNex – but if push comes to shove and the GNex isn’t released this year – I’d be happy with the Rezound – (rooted and ICS added of course)

  7. In other news Galaxy Nexus release date is now January 16th.

    1. Haha, exactly

  8. Simple way around this – purchase the phone at Costco.  They have no return fee, and 90 day long return window.  Called Verizon, verified, and going to pick up my Droid Razr (which comes with a free HD Dock, HDMI Cable, case, car charger).

    1. DON’T DO WHAT THIS GUY JUST SAID ABOUT COSTCO. 90 DAYS IS ON THE DEVICE RETURN, BUT YOU ARE STILL COMMITTED TO YOUR VERIZON CONTRACT IF YOU PASS THE 14/30 DAYS DEPENDING ON WHAT STATE YOU LIVE IN. AFTER 14/30 DAYS, IF YOU RETURN THE PHONE TO COSTCO, THEY WILL ACCEPT A RETURN ON THE PHONE HOWEVER YOU WILL STILL BE LOCKED INTO CONTRACT AND YOU LOSE YOUR SUBSIDY. I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA, WE GET 30 DAYS BY LAW. SO LETS SAY ON DAY 90 I GO TO COSTCO TO RETURN THE REZOUND, THEY WILL ACCEPT THE RETURN, BUT I WILL STILL BE LOCKED INTO CONTRACT. HERE IS THE WORST PART, IF I WANT TO EXCHANGE THE PHONE FOR A DIFFERENT MODEL, I LOSE MY SUBSIDY AND WILL NEED TO BUY THE NEXUS AT FULL RETAIL VALUE.

TRUST ME ON THIS, THE INFORMATION I STATED IS CORRECT.

      1. Normally, yes you would be correct.  Like I stated in my post, I already called Verizon and confirmed it.  Since they have EXTENDED their 14-day policy for the holidays, you are absolutely in the clear.  Let’s just say for sake of arguing you have 50 days from now until Jan 15 to return the phone for Verizon’s policy.  Obviously if you go over the 50 days but are still in Costco’s, you’re stuck in the contract.  As long as you return the phone to Costco within the 50 days, you’re good to have your upgrade back on Verizon and within the window for a full refund with Costco.

If you don’t want to take my word for it, call Verizon and they’ll tell you the same.

        1. What if Costco doesn’t carry the Galaxy Nexus? What then…. I’m on a blackberry pearl w/AT&T and need a new carrier. It’s a shame that Verizon won’t get me as a customer until they release the Nexus and maintain the double data plans.

          1. Apologies again, I was using my example mainly for people with upgrades (such as myself) with Verizon – may want to wait if you have ATT/Tmo/Sprint.

And I wouldbe very surprised if Costco did not carry the Galaxy Nexus.

  9. The only reason they did this is the Nexus will be delayed until after XMas.  At which time, Moto, HTC, and Samsung will have phones out about the same time with HD screens, 4470 OMAP or better processor (Tegra 3, Exynos quad, etc).

Might as well wait if VZW launches 2+ months after launch.

    1. They do this every year, nothing new. It’s for people who buy phones as gifts, nothing more. There is no conspiracy to delay the Nexus any farther….
