HTC Zeta Could be a 2.5GHz Quad-core Monster with Android 4.0

53

Last week we learned of what could be HTC’s first quad-core Android smartphone, the HTC Edge , but it will not be the only device of its class headed to the Taiwanese manufacturer’s lineup. A newly leaked render gives us a look at what could be another device sporting four cores, the HTC Zeta. While there is little to prove the Zeta is anything but a concept, its accompanying list of specs is impressive to say the least.

The Zeta is said to feature a 2.5GHz next-gen Snapdragon quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 4.5-inch 720p HD display. It should come with a serving of Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC’s Sense UI (likely version 4.0). It will also carry 32GB of internal storage, a 1,830mAh battery, 8MP camera with dual LED flash, 1.3MP front-facing camera, and Beats Audio support. Measurements are given as 109.8 x 60.9 x 9.8mm and 5.15 ounces.

Most interestingly, the Zeta is one of the most drastic departures from HTC’s established design language. And hourglass shape and sharp corners are blended into the familiar unibody construction. With little else to go on, we’d say consider this phone wishful thinking for now, though chances are if we don’t see the Zeta we will see something very much like it.

  1. Liking the design.

  2. These rumor phones with their ridiculously high clock speeds. Remember the 2.0ghz dual core galaxy s II?

    1. yeah and it was also rumoured to get a 1280×720 display…

  3. the rumor wheel keeps rolling along, great looking phone but Sense UI ? please allow the option to disable and enable it if we want.

  4. Surprised if HTC keep the buttons along the bottom for their ICS devices, one of the main selling points of the GN for me is the full display. I can’t see any benefit in keeping them separate.

    1. Cuz then you would have more screen? Might as well put that bezel to use =p

      1. the no buttons thing doesn’t give your more screen space thought, currently on HC, even when watching Netflix the button bar is still at the bottom. you don’t really gain more space if you use the onscreen buttons anyway so i am fine with leaving the capacitive buttons on there

    2. Also, could just be used to show where buttons go since an ICS device powered off (or screen off) will have just a black front display. Also, I personally think the soft buttons of ICS look kind of crappy and I prefer the dedicated buttons.

  5. CES?  This phone is HOT.  looking more and more like the HTC 1…

    1. I remember when those HTC 1 renders first showed up. GOD that thing STILL looks sexy. Let me get the HTC 1 instead please.

  6. Bad ass I want..

  7. Sexy, but it will be throttled by its 1gb of ram with a CPU like that.

    1. Yeah super throttled by RAM, but adding more RAM would lower an already dismal battery life.

    2. I can’t tell if brain damaged or just extremely stupid, possibly a troll…
Tell me how the amount of ram would bottleneck a cpu?

  8. i’ll take a Sprint G-Nex please.  i don’t like Sense bloat no ‘mo.  i don’t like capactive hard buttons no mo’, and i don’t like this pointy square silver design no mo’. HTC your designs are starting to look tired and dated. come on Chou!

    1. Look for a Feb. launch for the G Nexus as I was tipped from a Sprint Store. Remember the Sprint LTE is supposed to be launched around then as well perfect lineup! No?

  9. I rarely do this but.. I’m calling shenanigans. This looks like a mockup or concept. I like it. But I’m 99% sure this is fake.

    1. I agree, definitely a fake. There will be no 2.5 GHz quad-core phones in 2012.

      1. I beg to differ.  Look up the specs for the next gen Snapdragon.

    2. Hey Farva, what’s the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?

      1. Stop that right meow.

        1. I want a liter-a-cola

    3. If it came with ICS, then we wouldnt see the 4 buttons….just agreeing with what your saying…

  10. @twitter-27728490:disqus

The Bezel in the render above is even Smaller than the bezel found on the Galaxy Nexus! The bezel is done right on this phone. It’s almost an edge to edge display :)

  11. This phone looked amassing. But I like square phone like the iPhone. Not so curved on the back. Hope this isn’t the final design.

  12. ICS isn’t even out yet and HTC is already trying to cover it up with their SENSE? Really come on HTC..and can we get a bit thicker? I would like only my phone to fit in my pocket… release a stock phone, that’s not super thick and we will talk.. Love their choice of display tho..

  13. The only spec that really matters is an unlockable bootloader. If it’s locked, my money stays in the bank.

  14. thats an ugly ass phone, real or not

  15. Love the nearly edge to edge screen, but the design looks pretty unrealistic. Where is the speaker and ffc? Softkeys with ics?

  16. Ugly phone + Sense = no thanks

  17. awesome, it is a fake render because of the buttons and the face the frame around the camera is lop-sided. phone is gorgous though, HTC make this phone! great design even though the specs are BS a decent chip inside and it will rock. ICS + sense = a win for me. however i would rather see this phone come to verizon in wp7 flavor.

  18. That phone is uglier than sin.

  19. i call bs on this phone, bezel on right side of this alleged phone is thicker than the left also if this were the codename it is a bad choice for a code name to associate it with murders

  20. i would love a phone with these specs but with a physical key board

  21. If it’s going to have ICS, then why physical buttons?

  22. How does every article turn into a gnex release date feed? If the gnex wasn’t going to be a hardware flop from Samsung maybe I wouldn’t care, but Jesus. This HTC phone is sexy and if it is real then it will kill anything Samsung can throw can throw at it. Rezound is a better phone imo, it won’t have 10% of the hardware issues. As for the idiot saying this looks like every other HTC phone, have you ever seen an HTC phone?

  23. Pffft, the single and duals aren’t even up to 2GHz…Then all of a sudden this HTC Zeta is supposed to have a 2.5GHz QUAD core??!!

Yeah, not real hard to call BS on this one.

    1. cores have nothing to do with Ghz, the reason we don’t have any 2Ghz single or dual core CPU’s is because they would suck up way too much power. with more cores you get more efficiency so i would say its completely possible to scale up to 2.5Ghz with a quad core CPU. it would be WAY more efficient and therefore use less power, even at higher clocks

  24. If true phones will be on par to a pc in terms of perfomance in no time

    1. no they won’t, they will be on par with yester-years PC’s, which is fine, but a phone will never match what a PC can do because a PC will always be bigger and have more room for MORE power and more discrete components

      1. And more cooling…

  25. Looks sexy. I want it.

  26. Those are some mouth watering specs, one can dream

  27. Looks MEH, from the front (If it’s ICS, why even have Capacitive buttons anymore? Tho I must admit, I really miss having actual physical buttons)
    Looks ok from the back.
That side view tho. Looks awkward…
Looks like when placing it on a desk, it’ll never sit still. Looks like it woulds just rock around the way the 4 sides taper into the middle like that.

HTC has been a little lacking in the visually appealing department for awhile now IMHO. Hopefully they snap back to there senses sometime soon.

  28. Umm, those dimensions are smaller than the iPhone 4S. Unless the entire face of the phone is the screen, there’s no way this is true. Unless the dimensions are a typo. http://phone-size.com/?s=1%2C2%2C3%2C7

  29. HTC Edge is at the very least, believable. This doesn’t get me anywhere near as excited, as it just seems too out there.

  30. look at camera,s left side and right side.if you cant tell its a fake then go hang yourself.
btw:iam making a 10core 6.5GZ phone right now .it will have40MP camera and Aderno560.and i will launch it with Android 7 the Mustard Sandwich

  31. WTF I can’t keep up with android any more but those specs are freaking killer. Damn

  32. Phones clocked at 2.5 ghz, imagine it with a root?! 3.0ghz or more!

  33. Even if this is real can you guys imagine what the price would be on a 2yr contract

  34. Have to love all the idiotic comments about it being fake because of the buttons on front. ICS will work with buttons you idiots. Are the buttons on my EVO3d going to magically disappear when ics is on it? It’s up to manufacturers if they want to include buttons or not. I’ve read so many comments about buttons. Just amazes me how uninformed people are. You read sites like this, and still don’t know. If this phone was made by Samsung it would be the best thing since sliced bread. HTC makes it and its fat, no battery life, ugly design, too heavy, costs too much, whine, whine, whine. Don’t buy it then.

  35. I’ll see what else comes out before I agree on anything
