T-Mobile Soon to Enable Carrier Billing for More Digital Goods

3

The big wigs at Magenta have announced plans to bring carrier billing to their customers for more than just applications and in the Android market. They’ve teamed up with BillToMobile, PayFone, Boku, OpenMarket, and Zong to get things moving and are working to add more partners soon.

Starting out, purchase options may be limited to music, movies, in-game add-ons and credits and games themselves, but physical goods is a future possibility. This goes beyond mobile, even, so you could be paying for your gold coins on one of way too many Facebook games using your T-Mobile account. I’m excited to see how much more T-Mobile will end up adding in the future. Look forward to seeing this begin rolling out later this month. [TechCrunch]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. I just paid $22.87 for an iPad 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. 3. Direct carrier billing, like this T-Mobile program, will be a big part of the future mobile payments landscape for one big reason. It requires no credit or debit card or even a checking account, which makes it the only mobile payments option available to many younger consumers and the unbanked (as long as their credit history is acceptable to the carrier).

For everyone else direct billing will look very much like a kind of a mobile wallet and in fact it may become one of its components, next to the bank cards and checking accounts. http://blog.unibulmerchantservices.com/murky-prospects-for-mobile-payments-charged-on-cell-phone-bills
