Netflix App Now Supporting New Devices – No Update Required

60

If you were to take a look at the supported devices list for the Netflix app in the Android Market you may notice a handful of new devices are now being listed as supported. Funny thing is, the app hasn’t been updated. Looks like these devices were supported all along and Netflix is finally catching on. Here’s the full list of currently supported devices:

  • Casio G’zOne Commando C771 with Android 2.2
  • HTC Doubleshot
  • HTC Droid Incredible
  • HTC Droid Incredible 2
  • HTC EVO
  • HTC EVO 3D
  • HTC G2
  • HTC Thunderbolt
  • Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet
  • LG Revolution
  • Motorola Atrix
  • Motorola Droid
  • Motorola Droid X
  • Motorola Droid X2
  • Motorola Droid 2
  • Motorola Droid 3
  • Motorola Droid Bionic
  • Samsung Droid Charge
  • Samsung Epic 4G
  • Samsung Galaxy S
  • Samsung Galaxy S 4G
  • Samsung Fascinate
  • Samsung Nexus S
  • Samsung Nexus S 4G

If your device isn’t on this list and the app is showing up in your Market, I would go ahead and give it a shot. Who knows, Netflix might quietly add your device to this list next week.

  1. Does not work for the Epic4g :(

    1. You can wait for the 1.3 update or if you are running a Gingerbread ROM it works fine, and has for at least 2 months or so.

  2. Still doesn’t work on Thunderbolt.

    1. nor mine

      1. Working great on mine over LTE

  3. Anybody notice the yet to be released droid bionic on the compatible devices list?

    1. Yup

  4. While it now shows in the market for the Droid Charge, it will NOT work on it. I just downloaded it onto my Charge, installed it, signed in and then it just closes and goes back to the Android screen, I tried a few more times and got the same thing. If you go over to droid-life.com, others on the Charge are having the same problem.

    1. confirmed from my charge as well :/ I was so happy for a brief moment to see it in my market.

      1. Me too, I was like “Yessss!!” then this happened, and I went from happy to really sad, to angry :D

        1. ya, I’ve rated this as a 1 * in the market, until they correct it. they shouldn’t list the charge as supported if it’s not.

          1. Totally agree!

          2. You shouldnt rate apps one star if it doesnt run on your phone…contact the developer see what his plans are…I just dont think it is fair to devs to get one star because its not compatible with a certain phone…Netflix runs great and is a great app for my droid x…I understand your pissed but the comments section isnt for bashing etc…its to see how the app actually works…I never rate one or 2 stars unless I contact the dev first and give them a chance….Its bullshit how people use the comments section as a leverage point for them..It shouldnt be this way..

          3. Normally I’d agree, but it -does- say it supports it. Granted, if they go through the oh so monumental effort to remove the Charge from the list, bam, instantly invalidates the 1*.

I’m with you though, it’s like the people complaining about the G+ app when they don’t even have an invite.

          4. I generally agree, but Netflix 1) Lists my phone specifically as working, which it doesn’t and 2) offers no contact point, only a link to their website. I specifically stated in my review these points, and that i would adjust my score once they were resolved.

          5. Yea I understand but what I am saying is at least contact the dev and say hey it says its supported but it doesnt work…If they dont answer the email then thats fine with the one star rating…but state that in the review…I do think it is bs it says its compatible it must just be bug and they thought it was compatible…

          6. Now that there is a working version, I am updating my rating based on the functionality of the application.

  5. no sensation
    ?????????? what a joke!!

    1. So, I have a 3vo and have had Netflix working on it since the day I got it (3vo release date, July 24th)… you should be able to download the apk and install/run it anyway.

  6. By the time they release for my phone, I will of canceled my subscription because of their price gouging.

  7. The Nexus One has been supported since the launch of the app, I know because I’ve been using it lol.

  8. I just loaded it up on my Droid 3 with its Netflix HD Certified OMAP4 processor, and while I’m sure all the pixels are there, they’re not organized in a way viewable to anyone who can’t read data streams like the people in The Matrix could. Netfail.

  9. No go on Thunderbolt. The app launches and then drops back to the queue after you hit Play.

  10. Yep, what a joke.

  11. Awesome, still doesnt work on the G2x.

  12. Colors are still messed up on the Atrix.

    1. Yea, runs on my rooted Atrix, but I got this annoying green bar on the bottom of the screen any time I watch a movie. At least it’s running?

  13. It still does not work on the Droid 3… My stock unit will allow it to install and load, but when going to watch a program the screen goes green and causes the phone to reboot. Anyone find away around this?

    1. I’m getting the exact same thing: green screen, then reboot. Guess we just need to keep our eyes peeled for a fix… Get on it, science!

  14. Just installed it from market.
    Crashes after login.
Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant, rooted, stock rom, runing 2.2 (froyo), and latest adobe flash player (10.3).
    :/

    1. Does the same on Fascinate, not rooted.

  15. No Droid 3 love, BS that they put all these compatible devices up and none actually work.

  16. On the Droid 2 Global it downloads and installs, but then when you pick a movie you get 1 second of audio before it drops you back to your queue.

  17. Update… It seems that Google is still downloading 1.2.2 and not the new 1.3 version of Netflix. Once the new version is updated all new devices should work. Lets hope that Google or Netflix goes ahead and puts it out.

    1. Google made a big OOPS :D That must mean the 1.3 exists out there somewhere, maybe we won’t have to wait for Google to get the right version up.

    2. 1.3 must have just hit… my D3 just updated netflix and now plays perfectly…

      Score one for waiting…

  18. You can get the app on the Transformer if you have the latest firmware update but it won’t stream yet. Kind of odd but it is a step in the right direction I guess.

    1. if it dont stream what is the point of it??

  19. Works on my Sensation 4G just fine…

  20. droid bionic that must mean that this device is getting ready to launch if netflix gave it a go….So lets do this get this phone out

  21. Been Rocking this on my EVO 3D from day one from XDA no need to change to the market app. This way I won’t have the problems everyone else is..

  22. White screen with audio when trying to playback on the Incredible 2, hopefully 1.3 will come and fix it!

  23. And OFC like everything else the G2X gets passed over.

  24. Motorola Droid Bionic?

  25. Downloads on ASUS Transformer but doesn’t function.

  26. Thank god I already cancelled my service. $28.00 a month to watch movies 30 days after everyone else. Lame.

    1. I don’t want to justify the prices Netflix has, but you do know it’s only $7.99 a month now for unlimited streaming, right? Our current package that will end next month is 1 DVD and unlimited streaming for $11.99. I hope your Netflix package came with hookers or something!

      1. That’s true so the correct statement would be:
$7.99 to stream old shows and movies with a horrible selection and another $7.99 to get one DVD out at a time that are at least 30 days later than normal new releases. Great deal! /sarcasm off

  27. Hey, nice SPAM post!

  28. I can install it from the Market on MT4G, and I can log-in. Selecting Archer…playing episode one…it’s LOADING…and the video stops and returns to main menu after a second. Sigh. Back to Hulu+ then.

  29. Doesn’t work on my Captivate running 2.2. Le Sigh.

  30. Folks relax it looks like Netflix and/or Google flubbed the update–the updated description in Market refers to version 1.3, but the version downloaded is still 1.2.2 from mid-June. Perhaps we should wait for version 1.3 (later today, I hope) before complaining it doesn’t work.

  31. Confirmed working on my Captivate running Cognition 5 beta 1 (2.3.3 ROM). Been streaming Astonishing Xmen for the last 10 minutes!

  32. still no video…. Incredible2

  33. Nope no luck on my epic. Loads then take you right back to androud home screen. Pretty fed up with netflix they raise there prices and now this. I still am a memeber but why should I pay 7.99 for streaming when there is nothing but old and boring movies on streaming come on netflix. You say you want ppl to move to digital content but honeslty there is only one or two good movies on digital side. Get it together Netflix and start putting some decent movies on the Streaming side!!

  34. no samsung infuse 4g

  35. a new update is in the market, trying it now on my Charge.

    1. scratch that, it works! streaming the wizard over LTE

  36. To get it working on the Epic:

Install netflix from market (will probably be 1.2).
Reboot phone and open market again.
    Menu -> My Apps
you should now see the option to update netflix to 1.3.
    Install and enjoy.
