Don’t Worry About Ripping the Battery Door Off of the Samsung Galaxy S II – It Won’t Break [Video]

23

When I first saw reviewers prying the battery door off of the Samsung Galaxy S II, I cringed – that thing looked about as weak as a piece of toast. I thought someone, sooner or later, would snap that thing in half without even trying. Fortunately, I was wrong. The battery door’s cover is made of flexible material that looks like it won’t break after repeated battery door pulls, and you shouldn’t need to take the door off all that much anyway. Video’s above for a quick demonstration. [Thanks Hollow!]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Flexible battery covers, good idea!

  2. Now get released in the US already!

  3. That was pretty cool.

  4. Taking my thunderbolt battery cover off scares the shit out of me.  This on the other hand is sexy.  God I hope a VZW LTE version comes out…

    1. Pleaseeeee VZW LTE version…

You have to figure the Sprint version is going to be 4G because the Epic was, so why wouldn’t Verizon want to make their GSII 4G, as well?

      1. Was never designed to take advantage of LTE. The latest LTE players are on the thicker side due to the fact they contain both 3G AND 4G radios, one for talk & one for data transfer (4Gs not yet widespread enough to independently support voice). Not including the fact the battery for LTE has to be a heavyweight.

  5. Pretty soon Samsung is going to have a completely flexible handset–that will actually be pretty cool and probably very hard to break.

  6. What is the Galaxy S II?

    1. has the wifis

      1. Ooooooh ok that one.  The one that doesn’t seem to want to make it to the states.

  7. reminds me of how scary it is to remove the nexus S’s battery cover.

  8. Not really a proper comparison as the Galaxy S 1 is not usuing a stock ROM.  Looks like it might be Darky’s rom.

    1. Are you lost?

  9. People *really* need to read the book, “How Things Break”.  You will understand that Heaviness != Durability.

  10. Anyone else getting tired of waiting.  Samsung should at least tell us when it is coming to the US.

    1. I’m sick and tired of waiting.  And then it will be announced like its some magical new phone with super interesting names.  The hype is on a down hill for me but there’s nothing that can compete so its just a waiting game.

  11. Yup..same ol plasticky Samsungs. Ain’t gonna lie though..I freaking cringed seeing that lol!

  12. how maybe when i see reviews for the gs2, nobody will say the phone physically “feels cheap” compared to the easily-breakable glass on the icrap

  13. Wonder if it has something to do with reception. A metal back plate would block signals. The original Galaxy S had all sorts of reception issues, notably with GPS.

    1. The original Galaxy S was plastic too…

  14. TAKE MY MONEY!

  15. am i the only one that saw a crease about half way through? also…you never break or snap a cover, you snap the lil tabs that hold it in.  I wanna see him push on the edge of the lip on a 45 degree angle not fold the thing in half.

  16. Such a great phone, had mine about a month now, still nowhere near bored of it
