Acer responds to market challenges, cutting tablet shipments by 60 percent

10

After total sales dropped by 29.2 percent last month, Acer has re-evaluated their tablet plans for the year with a 60 percent decrease in proposed shipments. The massive drop-off comes after missing their previous three quarterly forecasts and losing chief executive Gianfranco Lanci earlier this year. While the reduction in numbers seemingly comes as a bad omen, Chairman J.T. Wang expects Acer to rebound beginning in the third quarter.

Acer had already reduced its shipment forecasts for the second quarter, dropping figures by 10 percent. The company now expects second quarter results to come in slightly higher than forecast. The PC manufacturer hopes to sell 800,000 tablets in both the second and third quarters. Total shipments for the year are no pegged at 2.5-3 million units, down from the 5-7 million initially forecast.

  1. We all know what tablet is taking their sales.

    1. The G-Slate? :-P

  2. I just bought this tablet and I think it is a great tablet. I can import .apk files via USB with easy and the market is as expected….great!! Overall I would give it a 4.5 of 5 stars. The only issue I see so far is video playback for .wmv and avi formats. Doesnt play them. THey have to be mp4’s and I think this is more android than tablet based but it would be nice to be able to play a different variety of formats. Overall the tablet is great and getting much use of it and the video quality is awesome as well

  3.  jay mulhollen, Try MoboPlayer, it should let you play AVI videos and might give you WMV playback too.

  4. Actually the Asus Eee Pad Transformer is kicking android ass.

    1. I love mine.

  5. The Android tablet market is going to slow up big time!!! Tablets are the new Netbooks

  6. Like I’ve mentioned don’t know how the Asus with no built in ports (they’re on the keyboard dock) is beating the Acer. Looked at this in Costco and it’s very responsive, and if you don’t need data connection and you want an Android tablet now this is the one to get.

  7. Maybe they should have focused on the new fad: thin and light tablets. Not thick ass, heavy ass slabs of metal with cheap lcd displays all for a price 50 dollars more than the better choice: Eee Pad Transformer. Maybe things could’ve been different for them right now..
