[Update: Review, Too] HTC Thunderbolt Unboxing Hits YouTube

32

We’ve seen the Thunderbolt many times and in many different videos, but this is the first time we’ve gotten a look at how the phone will be packaged once you snatch it from the shelves of Verizon. Wirefly is our benefactor here and they give us a 7 minute preview of the device with no release date. Video above.

[Update]: Looks like Wirefly also has a review of the phone up. Here for part 1, and we assume part two will be here soon enough. Subscribe to their channel to keep an eye out for it.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. 1400mah batter…. going to have HORRIBLE life :/

  2. Pretty sick phone.

  3. Well, if VZ wanted hype…this is the way to do it. Too many things going on, ahhh!

  4. Oh no 100mah less than every other smart phone on the market. yipes! rofl. Covert you are a dee dee dee.

  5. anyone notice at 6:15 when he unlocks it, the flip clock actually FLIPS now?

  6. The guy who unboxes the Thunderbolt is a jackass.

  7. Is it me or can you not use the USB jack if you are using the kickstand? I have a D1 with the dock. I would hate to lose the ability to charge while it is sitting up.

  8. @Covert, thats because the new HTC sense has that new flip clock, and it also looks like the confirmation that Landscape does not yet work on this phone… eventhough the Desire Z has it, maybe HTC doesn’t want portrait devices to have the landscape support unless it has a keyboard.

@Frogskins, theres a video on youtube of a guy at CES showing you can stand up the ThunderBolt in portrait mode using the kickstand so that would leave up the USB connector to charge.

  9. Is that guy my guild leader? What a deeb. “Lets look at the goodies!”

  10. Wish I could wait another 4-6 months for a dual-core phone on Verizon. The Thunderbolt looks nice, but I’m afraid that by the time my two-year contract is up, it’s not going to be worth much because multi-cores (even 4 cores) will be standard by then, making this phone ridiculously obsolete. Still, this will blow my iPhone 3G out of the water, so I’m sure I’ll be thrilled. Just RELEASE it already!

  11. Notice that he said it’s like the Evo? Yes, except that it’s a Snapdragon, version 2, which is at least 50% faster than the Evo’s Snapdragon. And at 750 MB of RAM, my guess it should compare pretty favorably with–say the Droid Bionic’s dual core, which will only have 512 MB of RAM. Maybe it won’t feel quite as snappy, but it should multitask like a 14 year old girl on speed.

  12. @Matt Benn, while I agree he was pretty annoying with his commentary, you’re hardly selling yourself out of the “dweeb” category, yourself. “Is that guy my guild leader?”

  13. 32 GB SD card…would be worth it just for that. has the latest version of Sense too.

  14. Some Guy had an unboxing on iTunes two weeks ago, nothing new here!

  15. I ment to say YouTube but my fascinate changed it to iTunes, I hate the fascinate!

  16. You can lock auto rotate, there is a widget for that, so maybe the auto rotate was locked.

  17. What a goob. He covers up the phone with the Fascinate during the boot animation! I wanted to see that…

Does anyone know if a SIM card is required for 3G service? I noticed that the phone said “Emergency calls only” without the SIM card…

  18. Ill buy your fascinate 200 righ now

  19. wow this guy is gaaaaaayyyyyy and boring…. its like if Mr. Rodgers took a valium… this unboxing should have been done by Rob Jackson. because he’s awesome…

  20. Yea was a bit ho hum really failed when covering up the boot screen with the Samsung…

  21. Since it uses sim card, can this phone be unlocked and use with at&t?

  22. @tt definetly no it may work on there LTE when it launches tho

  23. What iPhone?

  24. wait so with a sim card does that mean i can use it on GSM networks ie AT&T or T-mobile? or Just CDMA networks ie Sprint n VzW

  25. Aww, you’re all being too hard on the guy. Yes, the actual unboxing was kind of like watching a monkey try to peel a coconut, but I’m so grateful for some concrete coverage of the phone itself instead of just release-date rumors that all is forgiven.

  26. “Thunderbolt has 768mb RAM compared to Bionic’s 512mb”

Yea but the thunderbolt is DDR1 and the Bionic is DDR2 desktop grade, which makes it equal to or greater than 1gb of DDR1 learn your stuff before opening your mouth. The Bionic will smoke this phone and it doesn’t even have it’s OS designed for dualcores yet.

  27. Got mine yesterday!

    Sent it back today.

A phone needs to be able to keep a charge on standby for more than 4 hours. This is a GREAT wallphone. As long as you can keep it plugged in, you have the coolest phone on the market.

If you like carrying a brick around in your pocket that needs to be plugged in every 3 hours, you can pass on this one.

  28. I have long awaited the the Thunderbolt and now that I have a day left until I get it, time could not go by any more slowly. I have and work at DISH Network and cannot wait until I can use the Thunderbolt with the Sling adapter. With the Sling adapter, I can stream live and recorded to my android phone wherever I get 3G coverage or WiFi. This phone is definitely worth the wait.
