Pre-Order for Galaxy S Captivate is Live, Available Mid-October

The pre-order for the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate has gone live on Rogers, and you can put yours away for $149.99 with a three-year voice and data plan. As a special offer Rogers is even throwing in a Bluetooth headset with each online pre-order and entering those that purchase the handset into a contest to win $10,000 Samsung prize pack. Talk about giving people an incentive to order the device early.

The fine print at the bottom of the page says the phone will be available in mid-October, while the not-so-fine print at the top says the special offer including the Bluetooth headset expires October 20th. Using my brilliant deductive reasoning skills that should put the Galaxy S on Rogers’s shelves sometime between October 15th and October 20th.

  1. 3 year plan? At the speed of device upgrades, those who sign up for 3 years will be hating themselves. This phone, and any other phone sold this year will be old news in just a year. 2 years it will be a burden and 3 years will be a total joke. It’s the nature of the industry.

  2. The greater issue and concern is that most of the people on the redboard.rogers.com site are existing customers. These existing customers don’t get the pre-order (hope they are still available when they are released), they don’t get the free Bluetooth headset, they don’t get the entry into the Samsung draw, and most important right now, they don’t have any pricing for the phone (on or off contract). I personally was going to wait for a subsidized phone by Rogers but have decided to purchase a Previously owned one from the US and use it on the Rogers network. I get it quicker, I know my price, and I am not tied into a 3 year contract.

    Just my two cents.

  3. The deal with 3 year contracts doesn’t mean you aren’t eligible for an upgrade during that time. The upgrade time is generally 2 years (for subsidized smartphones, 1 year for subsidized regular phones). They just extend the “you must stay with us” part for 3 years. Every major carrier in Canada does this and has been mentioned over and over and over and over. I don’t know why people continue to say “omg 3 years” for every post involving a Canadian carrier. Yes it does suck, but most people I know rarely switch carriers anyways so its not a big deal.

  4. $549.99 No Term

I hope that the 6GB/$30 will still be around when this phone comes out.
