Blazing Fast Demo Of Dalvik Turbo Engine

8

Even some of the geekiest geeks can’t explain how the innards of your mobile phone circuitry combine, integrate and synergize to perform the tasks, run the apps, and play the games we so supremely love. But nevermind that – we all know math and love results and that’s all you need to know to appreciate this story! Last week the Dalvik Turbo was announced by Myriad, the company producing virtual machines in over 2 billion phones, and they said it could speed up applications 3 times while saving battery.

With a booth at MWC, Engadget was able to hold them to their word. The video below shows them running a simple 3D rendered cube animation and it’s only 2.2 times faster, but that’s still a marked improvement that we’ll gladly take.

Perhaps most exciting of all… the company said they’ll have these in products that hit the shelves before the year is over.

  1. _only_ 2.2x faster? aren’t we picky fellow, huh.

  2. what about older devices? will there be like an *update* to make your phone faster? i mean if it’s just an engine and isn’t hardware dependent i dont see this being a BIG problem

  3. what bothers me most is that his turbo vm will be closed/licensed/not free, whereas standard dalvik with jit enabled will achieve nearly the same speed while still being open…

  4. Is this something to be installed as an app or is it core to Android? Can it be integrated via an OTA update? I’d gladly pay for speed and improved battery.

  5. A cpu-usage meter would have been useful to see in that comparison.

  6. A frames per second meter would be more useful. I suspect cpu use on both devices was 100%.

  7. You couldn’t tell by looking at that it was smooth? Why not just trust what the guy said who makes the damn thing?

  8. OOooo, THis paired with a storage unlock with dramatically improve the droid.. . will it happen? Soon? drool.. . I’m thinking that along with an extended battery = love.
