Kyocera Zio Overview

The Kyocera Zio is the first Android phone from the manufacturer, introduced at CTIA 2010 in Las Vegas. The Zio is meant to attract typical phone users looking for an affordable phone that can do more - first time smartphone users perhaps.

The Kyocera Zio is on the lower end of the Android phone spectrum but still sports a 3.5-inch screen (WVGA), 3.2MP camera, Bluteooth, Wi-Fi and MicroSD slot and is powered by a 600 MHz processor.

The most attractive element of the Zio will likely be its price - presumably launching around the $200 range without a contract of any kind. The phone is CDMA and launched on Cricket and also on Sprint as the Sanyo Zio.

In Kyocera's defense Engadget played with a prototype, but it seems as if they've got some kinks to work out before launch.

Shareware Site Tucows Launches Cheap Wireless Service in Conjunction With Sprint

The folks at Tucows, who were once known for their applications (free, shareware or otherwise) repository for desktop operating systems are looking to introduce a new venture that’s interesting, to say the least. With the help of Sprint they have launched Ting, a pay-as-you-go service that gives users extremely good value compared to other PAYG [...]

Samsung Transform, Kyocera Zio Headed to Sprint?

Two things: firstly, Sprint’s getting the Kyocera Zio. We already know what the almighty “Cricket Android phone” is all about, but this is the first we’ve ever heard of Sprint getting it. It sits with Sprint branding alongside another supposed Android handset that we’ve never seen – the Samsung Transform. This device looks a lot [...]

Cricket Makes Kyocera Zio Official, Announces Upcoming Huawei Android

Never mind the fact that Cricket launched the site for the Kyocera Zio last week, in a press release today they have officially unveiled their new Android smartphone. While the pre-order site and other rumors would suggest an August release date, the statement revealed the phone would actually be coming this fall. No pricing was [...]

Kyocera Zio Launching as First Android Phone for Cricket Next Month

A pre-sale page has gone up on the Cricket Wireless site for the first Android phone to grace the growing carrier’s line up. The Kyocera Zio could be headed to Cricket as soon as August 15th along with a rumored $55 unlimited plan. It won’t come as the most impressive Android debut on a smaller [...]

Kyocera Zio Headed to Boost Mobile, Too?

Late March, we learned that the Kyocera Zio (aka the M6000) would be making its way to Cricket in July. While we have yet to see if that holds up to be true, another rumor is suggesting that the Zio could make its way to Boost Mobile, as well. A source of AndroidGuys‘ is the [...]

Kyocera Zio Priced And Dated For Cricket

We had a feeling (not to mention a bunch of evidence) that the Kyocera Zio would launch on Cricket as the carriers first Android phone – and we were right. Over at BGR they’ve got a full presentation chock-full of Cricket’s 2010 devices and what is one of the featured phones? None other than the [...]

Cricket Getting Kyocera Zio

A carrier hasn’t yet been announced for the Kyocera Zio, but all signs are pointing to Cricket. In addition to the phone having the right bands and Cricket being a pretty good partner of Kyocera, HowardForums has been hiding some hints. In the Cricket forum about “huge fundamental changes” leaked in February and rumored for [...]

Kyocera Zio Gets Quick Video Overview

Interested in the Kyocera Zio, the company’s first Android phone, destined to hit American shelves sometime this year? Then you’ll want to check out this video from MobileBurn that touches on the specs while giving the device a whirl: It’s noted that the phone is not only thin but extremely light, weighing in at only [...]

Kyocera Zio: Big Screen, Low Specs, No Price, Will Buy

Kyocera is taking an interesting approach to their first Android Phone and I think it’s one that will pay off. They’ve given their Kyocera Zio a high quality 3.5-inch, 800×480 pixel screen and left the remainder of the phone’s specs in the “average” category. But at only $169 to $216 unsubsidized, the company might have [...]

Kyocera Zio Coming By July

When the Kyocera Zio M6000 launches sometime in the 2nd Quarter (that’s before July for those keeping score at home) it will become the company’s first Android Phone. And judging by the initial looks of the device, it’s a pretty good first effort: The Kyocera Zio packs a 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen, trackball, 3.2MP camera with [...]
