Staff Picks: Chris’ Top Gifts
I like to think of myself as sort of an enigma. While it’s hard for me to generalize or describe the “stuff” that really captures my interest, I think it comes down to a few key factors: color, uniqueness, weirdness. That being said, it’s usually not too hard to shop for me, and when it comes to my own personal Christmas wishlist, here’s the items that populate it. Enjoy.
iDuck Stand (Get it!)
Okay, so this little duck stand captured my heart ever since I first told you guys about it in June, and it’s been haunting me ever since. Not sure if it has something to do with my childhood obsession with DuckTales and Darkwing Duck, but transforming my smartphone into a cute little duck just makes me smile. And I like to smile. The duckbill is a suction cup that attaches to the back of your device and even comes with plethora of stickers for the eyes. New for the holidays are the “limited edition” packaging making this the perfect gift for anyone who needs more smiles in their life.
Logitech Wireless Android Keyboard (Get it!)
This is probably one of the most used, most handy accessories I’ve owned. As someone who is pretty efficient behind a keyboard, I sometimes loath typing on my smartphone, simply because it take so much time. It’s even worse when I would like to put my big kid pants on, and get some real work done. Thankfully I came across this Logitech keyboard, specially made for Android devices. The keyboard features all the normal computer keys you’ve grown accustomed to, while also adding a few Android specific keys as well. The best part is everything JUST WORKS. Controlling your volume, jumping to your homescreen, pulling up the multitasking feature — flawless. I take it on trips, to church, just about anywhere I know I need to get down to business. As you can see from the picture, the keyboard case doubles as a phone/tablet stand. Splendid!
Flat cables, short cables, keychain cables, CABLES!
A little not well-known fact about me — I’m an accessory whore. I try to always have the right tool for the job and what could be more important than a micro USB cable. Here’s the problem: they’re long, ugly, and you never seem to have them around when you need ‘em most. Thankfully, I came across these items that make sure a micro USB is never more than arms length away. One of them you can wear around your wrist, another you can clip to your keychain, and the other is cool simply because it’s flat (flat makes it better). All of these would make great stocking stuffers for the uber tech nerd in your life (I’ll take all 3).
Melted Ice Cream and R2D2 Cases for SGS3
Came across these neat Samsung Galaxy S3 cases and they were so unique, so colorful, they were right up my alley. Apparently they’re supposed to simulate the look of melting ice cream, I don’t really know what they look like but if I still had my Galaxy S3, I’d definitely pick up a few colors. CoolStream Bluetooth Receiver (Get it!)
We’ve all seen those really cool speaker systems and curse the heavens when we discover — as always — they’re only iPod compatible. I can’t tell you how frustrating that has become and unless you don’t mind jacking your phone into a speaker’s aux port, it’s just not very convenient. Now we have seen some Android docking speaker solutions in the past, but when it comes to the other 90% of speaker docks out there, wouldn’t it be nice if you could play the music from your phone and cord-free to boot? There is a way, my friends. And it’s called the CoolStream Bluetooth receiver. Simply plug this little fella into an iPod/iPhone dock, and you can stream all your tunes to the former iPod-only speaker. Also works great for cars with built in iPod/iPhone docks too.
Logitech UE Mobile Boombox (Get it!)
As happy owner of the first generation Logitech Mini Boombox, I was excited when the all new for 2012 Logitech UE Mobile Boombox was introduced. A bit more rugged this time around, these wireless mini speakers feature a rubberized exterior similar to the Jawbone Jambox. But unlike the Jambox, Logitech’s Mobile Boombox is capable of pushing out a much louder sound without sacrificing too much sound quality. These thumpin’ little speakers are portable enough to fit into a book bag or manpurse, making sure the dance party goes where you go. With a built microphone, you can even make/answer calls through the boombox itself.
