As seen at Google IO: It’s a Toxic Hellstew and We Like It – Win 1 of 5 in this T-Shirt Giveaway http://phandroid.com/2014/07/07/as-seen-at-google-io-its-a-toxic-hellstew-and-we-like-it-win-1-of-5-in-this-t-shirt-giveaway/ http://phandroid.com/2014/07/07/as-seen-at-google-io-its-a-toxic-hellstew-and-we-like-it-win-1-of-5-in-this-t-shirt-giveaway/#comments Mon, 07 Jul 2014 14:56:31 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=144325 Its_A_Toxic_Hellstew_And_We_Like_It_Derek_Ross_Phandroid

At Google IO 2014, a handful of IO attendees were seen wearing the above (hey, I know that guy) t-shirt. The t-shirt reads “it’s a toxic hellstew… and we like it!” and was designed by Tyson Kemp of ProcessNotProduct. If part of the shirt’s phrase sounds familiar, it’s because Apple’s CEO Tim Took made the “toxic hellstew” quote famous this year at Apple’s WWDC  in early June. It turns out, the t-shirt was a bit of a hit during Google IO. In fact, Android fans have been asking where they can get this shirt as they wish to wear it proud to spite Apple’s blatantly deceptive claims. We here at Phandroid have teamed up with t-shirt designer Tyson Kemp to give away 5 free t-shirts to lucky winners.

The whole toxic hellstew phrase didn’t originate from Tim Cook though. ZDNet stated that “Android fragmentation [is] turning devices into a toxic hellstew of vulnerabilities”. True, the vast majority of mobile malware developed today is targeted at Android. However, Tim failed to point out though that just because Android has the most malware being actively developed for it’s platform doesn’t mean that Google Play is rampant with malware. Out of Google’s 1 billion active users, less than 1% of Android users actually become infected with malicious code. Additionally, if you’re in the mobile malware business, are you going to develop for the platform that holds roughly 80% of the global user base or are you going to go after a platform that has about 13% of the worlds mobile users? Exactly.

iSteamAndy T-Shirt
isteamWe told you folks about the iSteamAndy T-Shirt last month and I’m not gonna lie – it’s a pretty cool concept. Check out Kevin using his Game Gripper in action on the Droid 2. We’ll only include this if you’ve got one of the 3 mentioned devices… that’s our obligation to the environment since you’d likely just throw it away otherwise.

Phandroid Gear

In addition to giving ONE random commenter the below goodies, we’ll also be hooking up 3 other random commenters with a package of our Phan Gear.

Unfortunately in the holiday madness I was unable to put together a giveaway video, but most of you freeloaders just hop to the comments and drop “would like”, “do want” or a “me” anyways. Not that it’ll help your chances if you’re a bit more creative but come on, be a bit more creative ;)

Maylong Universe Android Tablet
maylongLast week I did a quick unboxing and hands on of the Maylong M-150 Android Tablet… and now I’m giving away the second of the two I purchased ! It only costs $100 at Walgreens.com but it’s kind of a get-what-you-pay-for scenario. It’s a 7-inch tablet with a resistive screen running Android 1.6, no Android Market and a bunch of other gotchyas. BUT, I was pretty impressed with this thing since – let’s be honest – it’s only $100.

Somehow one of these awesome pairs of gloves got tucked away beyond my vision. A quick cleanup revealed that a teal pair of thinner gloves still remained, meaning either a lovely lady winner will have a new winter companion or a guy with goodluck will have one less holiday gift to buy. In case you forgot, these sweet gloves have stitched in fabric that conducts the current in your fingers directly to your touchscreen, allowing you to flawlessly operate your phone in the coldest of weather. Don’t believe me? Check out this demo I did showing off the gloves’s unique ability.

Phan Giveaway: Phone Coasters, Game Grippers, and Even More Isotoner Gloves! http://phandroid.com/2010/11/09/phan-giveaway-phone-coasters-game-grippers-and-even-more-isotoner-gloves/ http://phandroid.com/2010/11/09/phan-giveaway-phone-coasters-game-grippers-and-even-more-isotoner-gloves/#comments Tue, 09 Nov 2010 18:21:18 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=32143 What’s that? Another giveaway? Of course it is. We’re back with more goods that you guys will get a kick out of. First up: more Isotoner smarTouch Gloves. These things are so popular with you guys that we can’t help but keep throwing them at you! It’s even colder in most places this week than it was last, so cross your fingers and pray you’ll get a pair of these if the climate in your area is starting to hit 30 degrees on a regular basis. (I live in Wisconsin. 60 degrees is warm to us.)

isotoner-smartouch-gloves

We’ll also be giving away the Game Gripper 2 for the Motorola Droid 2! Motorola made a slight change to the keyboard of the original Droid for the second edition of the phone and it deemed the original Game Gripper useless for those of you who have upgraded. Thankfully, the folks who created this bundle of joy for Droid gamers have not forgotten about you and has created a Droid 2 version of the Game Gripper to help make a more pleasant gaming experience. Kevin’s got a review of the new version coming up very soon, but until then, try and win one of these for yourself!

Finally, newPCGadgets has hooked us up with some Smartphone Coasters if you are the type whose phone is too good to sit on any given surface. Made with quality stainless steel, the idea and design is simple, yet oh so useful for phones that don’t have the luxury of coming with a kickstand preinstalled. (Yes, I know many of you EVO owners are cheesing cheek to cheek, right now.) Prop that phone of yours up on the stand and enjoy the comfortable viewing angle it provides for smartphones of all sizes. (PS: Yes, we are aware that that’s an iPhone 4 sitting in the coaster. You should already know how we feel about that!)

circle-smartphone-coaster

And then there’s the standard Phandroid pack, of course, that comes with a Phandroid-branded stadium cup, sports bag, pens, and mints to keep you all Phan’d up. Don’t forget that future giveaways will feature the Phandroid t-shirt that you guys selected back at our first ever Phandroid Live event!

Phan Giveaway: Powermat with EVO 4G Receiver, Isotoner Gloves, and More! http://phandroid.com/2010/11/02/phan-giveaway-powermat-with-evo-4g-receiver-isotoner-gloves-and-more/ http://phandroid.com/2010/11/02/phan-giveaway-powermat-with-evo-4g-receiver-isotoner-gloves-and-more/#comments Tue, 02 Nov 2010 17:59:11 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=31460 It’s Tuesday! Did you think we were going to skimp on another giveaway? This week, we’re giving away more Isotoner gloves. Thanks to newfound knowledge that a lot of you guys freeze your butts off in the winter judging by the overwhelming response we got last week, we’ve decided to throw another pair into the mix! Check Rob’s video out from last week as he puts the gloves to the test:

But that’s not all. We’re filling the pot up this week since we made you guys wait so late in the day, so we’ll also be throwing in a full three-mat Powermat kit! Being able to bring your phone into the house and just drop it onto the table to start charging it is more convenient than you can imagine, and the Powermat’s induction charging system facilitates that beautifully. I’ve tested it with review units of the Samsung Fascinate and the Samsung Mesmerize using the cube charger and their universal charging kit, and it worked great! I didn’t have specific receivers for those units, however, so it’s not much different from having to search for that pesky wall charger.

IMG_1128

I did have a receiver for my HTC EVO 4G, however, and while I’m sure it would’ve worked great, my charging port is busted and I couldn’t demonstrate it for you guys. Why not just give the receiver away, as well? I can’t use it! So whoever wins today’s giveaway will be doubly equipped for a seamless induction charging experience if they just so happen to own an HTC EVO 4G. [Note]: Winner’s items will be brand new in the box. I have an extra Powermat set that I used to take the photos. And yes, I know the single charging unit wasn’t plugged up. It’s for show!

IMG_1148

And there’s even more. Rob’s currently experiencing jet lag as he’s back on the plane headed for Palo Alto, California for tomorrow’s Facebook Mobile event. In the event that he walks away from Facebook’s humble abode with any goodies, those will be included in the giveaway! All the more reason to stick to Phandroid.com tomorrow morning (10:30 AM PST, 1:30 PM EST) for our coverage of whatever it is Facebook’s got in store for the mobile world.

Phan Giveaway: Isotoner smarTouch Gloves http://phandroid.com/2010/10/26/phan-giveaway-isotoner-smartouch-gloves/ http://phandroid.com/2010/10/26/phan-giveaway-isotoner-smartouch-gloves/#comments Tue, 26 Oct 2010 15:21:06 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=30928 Ever tried to use your Android Phone with gloves on in the cold weather? It usually ends in one of two ways… (1) Total failbot, or (2) Successful but with freezing cold hands because you gave up and took your gloves off. Unless of course you’ve got Isotoner smarTouch gloves.

With a conductive thread embroidered on the pointer finger and thumb, these gloves conduct the electrical current needed to operate your smartphone with gloves on. They sent us a few free pairs and I gave them a whirl. Not only are they pretty darn slick looking, but they worked like an absolute charm.

The SmarTouch gloves go on sale November 1st and you’ll be able to find details at smartouchgloves.com. I’m a sincere fan of these gloves, and if you’re the type of person who can’t stop playing with their phone, I think you’ll be a fan too (if you’re in a cold climate of course.)

isotoner-smartouch-gloves

Whether I’m standing outside for hours at a football game or standing outside my car for a couple minutes pumping gas, continually taking my gloves off to operate my phone isn’t only annoying- it also defeats the purpose of wearing gloves. It isn’t a totally effortless procedure to use the gloves with precision, but that’s because they’re built with warmth in mind and are a little bit thick. In fact I’d say just thick enough – probably the perfect combo between warmth and dexterity. You can see in the video above I’m able to type quickly and accurately, something with which I was really impressed.

While these gloves don’t go on sale until November 1st, Isotoner was nice enough to hook us up with a few free pairs. We’ll be giving away ONE pair this week and will continue giving away ONE pair each week until we run out. That’s how we’ll conduct all of our Phan Giveaways and trust us when we say we’ve got some awesome items incoming in the next couple weeks. So expect the “lot” of items for each giveaway to increase.

We’ll also be hooking up today’s random winner with our current collection of Phandroid Gear: a Phandroid Bag, Phandroid Pens, Phandroid Stadium Cup, and some Phandroid Mints to keep your bot breath on the low.
