A new sports app has found its way into the Google Play Store, folks. It goes by the name of Sqor, and its street creds are through the roof — Brett Favre sits as a board member for the company, and we all know how great of a legend he is (Go Pack Go!). So what is it exactly? Think of it as a sports social network where you’ll be able to keep up and interact with your favorite athletes. Basically, it’s like Twitter for sports.

Upon signing into the app you’re asked to follow five of your favorite athletes. The initial list of athletes you are presented with are folks who are officially partnered with Sqor and post directly to fans within the app. Brett Favre, for instance, put on a pretty nice contest for all his Sqor followers to win two jerseys in celebration of the beginning of the 2014 NFL season.

Following someone like Brett Favre will keep you in the know about all his whereabouts — whether he’s posting a nice video to fans or just random thoughts on a cloudy day, his musings will show up throughout your timeline.

What’s unique about Sqor is the ability to comment on those posts for the athletes and other fans to see. Following an athlete also delivers the latest news and reports (from independent, third-party sources) regarding their current happenings so you’ll always know what they’re up to.

You can follow athletes who aren’t officially partnered with Sqor (there are over 1,500 across many different sports and leagues right now), but you’ll just see the latest news related to them. Following the best quarterback in football (Aaron Rodgers, duh) will pull stories related to him from sources like Associated Press, ESPN and Sporting News, all of which can be commented on and shared.

sqor screen grab

Of course, you’re just as free to post your own thoughts whenever you feel the need. I, for one, had quite the outburst regarding what happened in last night’s opening game between the Seattle Seahawks and my poor Green Bay Packers.

Another interesting element of Sqor are the Showdowns, which are basically pick-em games between you and your friends. Choose who you think will win games every week, and you’ll win badges and trophies for doing well. Do well enough to win at least 10 showdowns and you’ll be entered to win a $500 gift card to Fanatics.com. Unfortunately Showdowns are limited to the website, but we’re told the mobile app will be getting some love shortly. They’ll also be adding support for MLB, NBA and more in due time.

And that’s Sqor — a great social network for sports fans that allows you to interact directly with your favorite athletes. No PR middlemen or official team pages to get in the way. Be sure to give it a download for free in the Google Play Store, and read on to find out how you can win 1 of 4 $250 Google Play gift cards for participating in all the juicy sports discussion.

Motorola extends Moto 360 contest until tomorrow, 20 new smartwatches up for grabs http://phandroid.com/2014/08/28/motorola-extends-moto-360-contest-until-tomorrow-20-moto-360s-up-for-grabs/ http://phandroid.com/2014/08/28/motorola-extends-moto-360-contest-until-tomorrow-20-moto-360s-up-for-grabs/#comments Fri, 29 Aug 2014 01:17:01 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=147858 Motorola Yo contest

After the unfortunate wording in Motorola’s Moto 360 contest confused participants, Motorola is looking to do fans a solid by extending their contest until tomorrow. Up for grabs is another 20 Motorola Moto 360 smartwatches, all you have to do is add “Motorola” on Yo, then send them a message to enter.

Just like last time, the first 20 people to successfully complete the registration form after receiving a Yo reply from Motorola will take home a lovely Moto 360 smartwatch.

And just so we’re all crystal clear on how the contest works:

  1. Download/install Yo from the Google Play Store
  2. Set up an account
  3. Add “Motorola”
  4. Send Motorola a Yo
  5. Receive Yo from Motorola and click supplied link
  6. Be 1 of the first 20 people to successfully complete registration form and win a Moto 360.

For everyone that sent Motorola a Yo yesterday/today, Motorola says you’re already entered. The contest ends tomorrow at 11AM CT so hop to it. For additional rules, regulations, terms, and conditions, check out Motorola’s official rules page here. Good luck!

Motorola has 20 Moto 360s to give away, all you have to do is send them a ‘Yo’ for a chance at winning one http://phandroid.com/2014/08/27/motorola-is-giving-away-20-moto-360s-in-yo-contest/ http://phandroid.com/2014/08/27/motorola-is-giving-away-20-moto-360s-in-yo-contest/#comments Wed, 27 Aug 2014 21:38:26 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=147717 Motorola Yo contest

It’s probably one of the most useless apps to come along in awhile, yet those who download pseudo messaging app “Yo” can be entered to win a Moto 360. Revealed on Twitter, Motorola will be giving away 20 Motorola Moto 360 smartwatches to random people who message them using Yo over the next 24 hours (before August 28th, 2:59 PM CT). If you get a Yo back, then you officially have a shot at picking up a Moto 360 free of charge.

Once a Yo has been received, Motorola will be contacting winners around 4:00PM CT on August 28th via Gmail (yes, a Google account is required to claim the prize). At that point the race is really on, and only the first 20 people to successfully fill out an entry form will eligible to win the Moto 360.

What’s interesting is how Motorola is — once again — giving the Moto 360 an approximate retail value of $250 in the official contest rules, lining up with what we saw recently from a Best Buy leak. You can download the Yo app on Google Play via the link below. Good luck!

OnePlus manages to put on a respectable contest: share a photo and win 1 of 10,000 invites http://phandroid.com/2014/08/22/oneplus-one-contest/ http://phandroid.com/2014/08/22/oneplus-one-contest/#comments Fri, 22 Aug 2014 18:31:35 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=147394 oneplus one summer shots contest

OK, so OnePlus’s last contest didn’t quite work out the way they wanted. Sweep it under the rug, they shall. The broom they’ll use to sweep? Another contest — one with up to 10,000 invites to buy a OnePlus One up for grabs. On top of the fact this is a contest that isn’t limited to just a handful of people, it’s actually easy to enter and doesn’t teeter on lines of sexism and environmental irresponsibility. Here’s how you enter for a chance to win:

  1. Post a photo taken this summer with hashtags #summershots and #oneplus on Instagram (or, alternatively, do any of the other social actions listed here)
  2. Sit back and check out entries from other OnePlus fans

And that’s it. Refreshing, isn’t it? The contest runs from today through August 25th at 6am Eastern, and winners will be chosen at random and contacted August 27th. You can win up to 15 entries. Posting your photo to Instagram nets you the most, while the typical “stalk us on social networks” will get you 1 each. Here’s the full breakdown:

  • Share your summer shots on Instagram – 5 entries
  • Share your summer shots on Twitter – 3 entries
  • Share your summer shots on OnePlus forums – 2 entries
  • Follow on Instagram, Follow on Twitter, Like on Facebook, Follow on Google+ and Subscribe to YouTube channel – 1 entry for each of those actions

That gives you a pretty good chance to win if you haven’t already been able to buy a OnePlus One. Not much to complain or yell about here. Well, one guy did manage to dock points from OnePlus for putting up a massive contest when they could just sell the phones first come first serve, but that dead horse has already been beaten 10 times over. Go ahead and enter at their contest website right here.

OnePlus ‘Storm of Invites’ promo will have you jumping through a few hoops for a chance at buying the phone http://phandroid.com/2014/06/17/oneplus-storm-of-invites-promo/ http://phandroid.com/2014/06/17/oneplus-storm-of-invites-promo/#comments Tue, 17 Jun 2014 20:44:31 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=142747 OnePlus One storm of invites promotion

If you’re still itching for a chance to pick up the OnePlus One, you — and about 2,500 others — now have your best chance yet. The startup announced an all new promotion via their Google+ page that, according to them, will rain a storm of invites upon lucky fans. Of course like most things OnePlus…. there’s a catch.

OnePlus One 64GB Sandstone Black

Really it’s not much. All you have to do is plug the company across a variety of social networks for a chance at winning one of the 2,500 invites being given out for the 64GB “Sandstone black” model. To make things interesting, 1 lucky participant will win a free OnePlus One 64GB completely free of charge. Here are a few of the “hoops” you’ll need to jump through (each one is worth 1 entry), but it’s up to you to decide if they’re worth it for an invite:

  • Like OnePlus on Facebook
  • Join the OnePlus mailing list
  • Tweet about the “giveaway” on Twitter
  • Follow OnePlus on Instagram
  • Write a message on the OnePlus forums

With already 126,000+ entries, your chances of winning an invite aren’t exactly in your favor. Here’s to hoping they’ll soon open the flood gates and finally give everyone who wants to purchase the Cyanogen phone a chance at owning one before things turn sour.

HTC is giving away a limited edition S.H.I.E.L.D. One M8, all you gotta do is take a #superselfie http://phandroid.com/2014/05/06/limited-edition-shield-htc-one-m8-contest/ http://phandroid.com/2014/05/06/limited-edition-shield-htc-one-m8-contest/#comments Tue, 06 May 2014 19:22:10 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=140030 HTC One M8 SHIELD edition contest

Captain America: The Winter Solider hit theaters last month to warm reviews (we loved it). While we wont spoil any plot lines, eagle-eyed Android fans may have caught some subtle product placement in the film by way of the original HTC One making a cameo as Nick Fury’s smartphone of choice (Hydra was partial to the HTC One X+).

Taking that Marvel endorsement deal and running with it, HTC is now throwing a giveaway on both Twitter and Facebook which sees a 14 lucky winners receiving a special limited edition S.H.I.E.L.D. HTC One M8. To enter, all you gotta do is a take a selfie in your best Captain America-inspired getup and post it to Twitter along with the hashtag #superselfie. Those of you with a Facebook account can also get in on the fun, posting your pictures to their promotion post here.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. edition HTC One M8 is pretty much the standard gunmetal grey model, only with a numbered S.H.I.E.L.D. logo on the back. Subtle, but cool enough that Marvel fans can appreciate the reference. The promotion officially ends on Thursday, May 15h and you can enter once per-day — just don’t go recycling the same selfie over and over. For official rules, head here. After entrants have been selected, the full list of winners will be publicly posted here. Good luck!

OnePlus One ‘Smash the Past” contest sees hopefuls smashing their phones prematurely http://phandroid.com/2014/04/24/oneplus-one-smash-the-past-contest-premature-smashings/ http://phandroid.com/2014/04/24/oneplus-one-smash-the-past-contest-premature-smashings/#comments Thu, 24 Apr 2014 23:38:14 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=139221 Smash the Past landing page

You gotta give it to OnePlus. For being a newcomer to the industry, they’ve managed to make quite a name for themselves and it didn’t even take spending a sh*t ton of money to do it. There’s no question they’re offering a compelling product with the OnePlus One, undercutting the big dogs and still offering a phone with more bang for the buck. But it’s OnePlus’ grassroots marketing techniques that are raising eyebrows for some.

Take their “Smash the Past” contest for instance. The promotion — which doesn’t officially kick off for another 12 more hours — offers the upcoming OnePlus One smartphone at an extremely discounted price of only $1. The catch? You’ll have to smash your old smartphone to get it.

As we told you guys yesterday, you’ll first have to sign up for the chance to be randomly selected. Once chosen, you’ll then have the opportunity to prove your love for the OnePlus One by destroying your old smartphone via whatever means necessary. Unfortunately, it looks like we’re already seeing a few OnePlus One hopefuls jump the gun, smashing their smartphones without first reading the entry rules. It’s painful to watch, but you’ll find video proof below.

Again, you’re supposed to sign up for an invite first, then smash your phone — not the other way around. Now, we’re sure a few of the people in these videos didn’t damage their primary phone, probably some dusty old ones they had laying around the house. That still doesn’t make it any less painful.

And before you run over to their channels and leave them all kinds of nasty insults (seriously, don’t do that), we think OnePlus could have exercised a teensy bit more caution when advertising a promotion like this. We’re still waiting around for full entry rules which, according to the Smash the Past landing page, says will be revealed in 12 hours time. In the meantime, hang on before putting those old phones on the chopping block. Those looking to participate, you can sign up for the Smash the Past contest via the link below.

HTC One 2014 headed to Verizon and AT&T, contest and marketing materials hint at same-day release http://phandroid.com/2014/03/21/htc-one-2014-verizon-att-contest-leaks/ http://phandroid.com/2014/03/21/htc-one-2014-verizon-att-contest-leaks/#comments Fri, 21 Mar 2014 23:54:48 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=136235 HTC M8 One flip cover leak

The race is on to see which smartphone manufacturer will be the first to release this year’s flagship. We already told you guys about the Samsung Galaxy S5 pre-orders opening up for AT&T, with T-Mobile’s opening on Monday. Although the all new HTC One 2014 isn’t officially scheduled to be unveiled until Tuesday, March 25th, it looks like we might see the device launch much sooner than we originally thought.

We were left scratching our heads as to why HTC would wait so long into the month of March to announce their HTC One followup. With all the leaks from signage to brochures, we were wondering what exactly could be the hold up. Well, it appears that, similar to its launch in London, HTC could be planning on making the device available the same day as its March 25th unveiling. Why do we think that?

AT&T Share the secret HTC One 2014

AT&T has just begun officially teasing the launch of “an amazing new HTC device,” with a nondescript image of the HTC One 2014 we’ve seen leaked countless times (minus the front facing camera, light sensor). According to the promo, AT&T will be giving away 1 of these new HTC devices (valued at $639.99), every day until March 25th — starting today. All you have to do is enter in your email, and you’ll be entered to win. There’s also the option of posting AT&T’s “secret” on Twitter or Facebook for additional entries. That contest end-time has us wondering if that will be the day the HTC One 2014 will be officially available in stores.

Verizon HTC One 2014 promo box

Earlier this week we saw some marketing materials already make their way to Verizon retail stores, cluing us in on its imminent release. Today, we’re getting a look at some additional signage, this time in a leaked promo box showing a date peeking through the HTC One’s upcoming Lite Brite flip cover. It reads, “Get ready to hit refresh, 3.25 at 1PM ET.” According the leaker, a demo unit is also said to be arriving.

HTC One 2014 Verizon pricing

Pricing and color options for the Verizon Wireless HTC One 2014 were also confirmed from the in-store computer system. Expect the phone to run $200 with a 2-year agreement ($600 full retail) and be available in Amber Gold, Glacier Silver, and Metal Grey (black). Once again, no release date was given, leaving us to wonder if the promo box could, in fact, be hinting at a same-day release.

Thanks, Captain_D!

HTC wants to replace your bad gifts with a shiny new HTC One http://phandroid.com/2013/12/19/htc-contest-bad-gift-replacement/ http://phandroid.com/2013/12/19/htc-contest-bad-gift-replacement/#comments Fri, 20 Dec 2013 03:26:17 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=131164 ReplaceMyGiftHero_Blog

It’s happens every year. No matter how good your friend’s or family’s intentions are during the holidays, you always seem to end up with that single “off” gift. Whether it’s a dancing snowman, or reindeer boxer briefs, HTC’s got your back.

The smartphone manufacturer is currently throwing a contest where willing participants have the opportunity of swapping their “bad” gifts for something… better. How does a shiny new HTC One sound? That’s what we thought.

To enter, all HTC wants you to do is snap a picture of your bad gift Instagram with the hashtag #replacemygift. Don’t forget to follow and tag @HTC in the photo’s description, along with the a description of what makes the gift so terrible. Where this seems like an easy opportunity to bash another manufacturer’s products, HTC makes it clear they don’t want pictures of brands or rival manufactures pictured. Good fun, and all that.

Those with the most creative or fun pics will find themselves with a brand new HTC One, as announced on the official HTC blog. For the complete set of rules, you’re going to want to head on over to their official rules and regulations list. Don’t worry, it’s pretty straight forward. Good luck!

Our random number generator selected Rick Astley’s Google Glass as the winner- from AF member “maped” – although we would have been perfectly happy with ANY of these as winners. Awesome stuff!

There were some other great Glass Photoshops, too, which you can find at the bottom of this article. But first let’s share our other winners.

The Last Glass Invite: Android Forums Staff Appreciation http://phandroid.com/2013/11/08/glass-contest-day9/ http://phandroid.com/2013/11/08/glass-contest-day9/#comments Sat, 09 Nov 2013 00:24:48 +0000 http://phandroid.com/?p=129097 jhawkkAnd then there was one. The last Google Glass invite we have to give away is going to a somewhat randomly selected Android Forums member.

If you haven’t joined Android Forumsyou should. It’s an amazing resource and an amazing community. It allows people with similar devices, issues, problems, ideas, and interests to share tips & tricks, offer support, and help everyone get the most out of their Android device. But Android Forums wouldn’t be possible without staff and an amazing cast of loyal members.

(Check out our Nexus 5 Forums)

We reserved this last Google Glass invite to one member who expressed immediate interest in buying the device and using their experience to help other Google Glass Explorers on Android Forums. The last Google Glass invite goes to jhawkk who has racked up an astounding 7,900+ posts and has been “thanked” an outrageous 2,400+ times.

Jhawkk is a prime example of the type of people that make Android Forums so awesome. We don’t have unlimited invites to share, but wanted to take the opportunity to symbolically thank all of Android Forums staff and premium members and loyal members for contributing to the site. There’s a good chance a few more invites will be thrown that direction depending on a few winners we’re still waiting to hear back from.
