Android & Visa: Mobile Payments, Fraud Protection

By Rob Jackson • Sep 26th, 2008

Visa announced several features of their mobile initiative that will bring new services to mobile phones and Android devices will be some of the first to adopt these new capabilities. Based on their press release, it seems that a Visa Application will be available on the Android market and offer some pretty basic features:

T-Mobile G1 User Guide Leaked!

By Rob Jackson • Sep 25th, 2008

The boys at Gizmodo have obtained via tipster the download link for the T-Mobile G1 user guide. You can see it here. With all the G1 dissing Gizmodo has done - and its been almost exclusively dissing - maybe these tipsters should send some juicy info to people *ahem* who would actually appreciate *ahem* the [...]

How To Monetize Your Android Applications

By Rob Jackson • Sep 25th, 2008

When the Android Developers Challenge launched, mobile developers had one clear way of monetizing their applications… winning the contest. The App Market presents another opportunity to earn for your efforts… sell your application. But it’s the third method of monetizing your Android Applications that is likely the most effective and profitable - integrating advertising into [...]

The Most Popular Android Application?

By Rob Jackson • Sep 25th, 2008

While I was playing with the Android Market I downloaded and used a little application called “Krystal 2″. Read how silly the apps description sounds: “Pet your phone, and let it return the love you show it. This furry little creature vibrates and coos. The more you pet it, the happier it gets.”
Is it that [...]

G1 Complaints Grow, Then Shrink

By Rob Jackson • Sep 25th, 2008

No phone is perfect and after a couple days, a somewhat universal list of complaints for the T-Mobile G1 has sparked up on the web. I agree with AndroidGuys and IntoMobile on their list and echo it below:

No standard 3.5mm headphone jack
Video player other than YouTube
Lack of MS Exchange support
No tethering or [...]

T-Mobile G1: Cool Features Video

By Rob Jackson • Sep 24th, 2008

With various T-Mobile G1 “kiosks” stationed around the room at the Press Event the idea was that there would be enough phones for everyone to test drive the G1. All the “kiosks” were virtually identical besides those for Ecorio and Shop Savvy. But there was one big difference… the people showcasing the product.
While everyone there [...]

T-Mobile G1: Black vs Brown

By Rob Jackson • Sep 24th, 2008

The Brown T-Mobile G1’s were a rare breed yesterday but I pinned one down for a side by side comparison with the Black T-Mobile G1. Looking closely you could tell the difference but the brown is so dark that at first glance it looks just like the black version. When you open it up however, [...]

Shop Savvy for Android: Defining The Vision

By Rob Jackson • Sep 24th, 2008

I’ve been following Android for almost a year now, but when friends asked me why I was headed to NYC for the T-Mobile Press Conference, I still couldn’t explain to them what Android was in a simple, concise manner. Most people just don’t get it… “so its just a phone?” No… its not just a [...]

Sergey Brin (Google Founder) Makes an Android App

By Rob Jackson • Sep 24th, 2008

The jury is still out on whether rolling through the T-Mobile G1 Press Conference sporting roller blades was a cool thing to do or not…. errrr…. maybe not. Presenting a “revolutionary” product with a product popularized (and past its prime) a decade earlier seems to send a mixed message, does it not?
Nevermind that - I [...]

T-Mobile G1: Photo Opportunity

By Rob Jackson • Sep 24th, 2008

And here is our first video up and running, with many more to come! Converting/Uploading takes longer than I thought… phandroid needs an intern! In any case, once the phone had been “unveiled” the execs got together for a little photo opportunity.
As you can see from the video I hung back… it was fun to [...]
