Target introduces Wallet, combines coupons and mobile payments for more convenient checkout

0

If you thought we’d seen the last of retailers creating their own mobile wallets — instead of using already popular services like Apple Pay or Android Pay — you’d be wrong. Dead wrong. Because apparently you can never have too many ways to pay in-store, retailer Target is creating yet another way to buy stuff using your smartphone without that annoying Tap-to-Pay technology.

It’s available through the Target app and gives customers a one-stop place to shop, clip coupons (using Cartwheel), and pay using their Target REDcard. Target says this is “four times faster” than using other payments types, and soon the Target app — via Wallet — will be able to store your Target gift cards as well (okay, that’s pretty nice).

To pay, users will select the card they have on file and scan the unique barcode that pops up on their phone combining Cartwheel offers, Weekly Ad coupons, and 5% REDcard discounts all in one fell swoop. Wallet is already available inside the Target app, to download and check it out for yourself, just hit up the button below.
