The Moto X4 makes its official debut at IFA 2017

After months and months of rumors and leaks, the Moto X is FINALLY back. Well, it’s now called the “Moto X4“, but after suggestions that the Moto X lineup was dead and gone in favor of the Moto Z lineup, it seems Motorola decided to change things up a bit.

Moto X4 Specs

  • 5.2-inch FHD Display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC
  • 3GB/4GB RAM
  • 32GB/64GB Storage
  • 16MP Front Camera
  • 8MP/12MP Dual Rear Cameras
  • 3,000mAh Battery
  • IP68 Water Resistance

However, those looking for a flagship Moto X, will be a bit disappointed as the Moto X4 will be nestled in the budget market. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 630 SoC, and is coupled with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM along with 32GB or 64GB of storage, respectively.

Covering the internals of the Moto X4 is a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920, along with a fingerprint scanner/home button on the front of the device. There’s nothing super revolutionary about the design, other than the ultra-shiny material which will definitely catch everyone’s attention while you’re out and about.

Dual X4 Cameras

While the internals may not be super impressive yet, let’s take a look at the camera(s) that Motorola has included with the Moto X4. On the front, we have a 16MP selfie shooter with an “adaptive low light mode” to make sure you get the best selfie, regardless of how much light is in the room.

As for the rear cameras, the Moto X4 features an 8MP sensor, as well as a 12MP sensor. The software will allow for users to take bokeh portrait shots with ease, along with new features which “let you use selective black and white or color or even change the background”.

Powered by Alexa?

One of the most interesting features that Motorola makes note of in its official announcement post, is that Amazon Alexa Voice Services will be making its introduction with the Moto X4. While we are sure that Google Assistant will still be found on the device, it will be interesting to see how well Alexa performs when set to the default voice assistant with the X4.

This isn’t the first time that Alexa has made its way onto a smartphone, as the Huawei Mate 9 was the first of its kind to feature the voice assistant. Since then, we have also seen Alexa make its way to the HTC U11, and now the Moto X4, so it seems Amazon is ready to see how Alexa handles the bright lights.

Four Bluetooth devices at ONCE!?

When the Samsung Galaxy S8 was launched, one of the biggest features for music lovers was the ability to stream music to two different Bluetooth products at the same time. However, we now have an idea as to why the “Moto X4” moniker was named this way.

Motorola states that the Moto X4 will allow you to share the sound from your device with up to 4 different Bluetooth devices at the same time. This is absolutely huge for those who are truly the life of a party and want to make sure the music is spread all throughout the house.

Is it coming to the US?

The Moto X4 will be launching across Europe in September for €399, while also stating that the US launch will be coming “later this Fall”. Unfortunately, we don’t know if pricing for the X4 will be different for those of us here in the States, but it will be interesting to see how well this device stands up against the competition.

Let us know what you think about the Moto X4 and if you’re intrigued to see what the device is truly capable, once it launches here in the States.
