[UPDATE: Android OREO!] Google plans to unveil Android O during a livestream on Monday

0

Well, we finally know when Android O will be announced. Google decided to give everyone the heads up by launching a new landing page where you can find out more information about the reveal, while tying into the solar eclipse which will be taking place next week.

On August 21st at 2:40 PM EST, Google will be live-streaming the announcement from a special event in New York City. The great thing about this live-stream is that everyone will be able to tune in to not only learn more about Android O, but to finally learn what the name for O will be.

There aren’t many teasers which give any hint as to what the name of Android O will be, other than a quote which states:

Android O is touching down to earth with the total solar eclipse, bringing some super (sweet) new powers!

However, considering the fact that all Android names have been desserts, this doesn’t really give us any insight. Instead, we’ll have to keep speculating until Monday, but in the name of speculation, let us know what you think the name of Android O will be. My money is still on Oreo, and not on “Orangina” like others have suggested.

Oh, and something cool that Google is providing, is that you can use Google Assistant to set a reminder for the solar eclipse, so you can actually go outside and look at the sun. In order to set this alarm, simply state:

Set a solar eclipse alarm for 1:30 p.m.

Then your alarm will be set and you won’t forget about when the eclipse will be taking place.

UPDATE:

After Google launched the new landing page for Android O, a Reddit user discovered the name for Android Oreo in the URL for the teaser video.

If you open that video in the link here, you’ll notice the title of the video is “GoogleOreo_Teaser”, and the URL reflects the same name. However, there’s also a big chance that Google is just trolling everyone while getting ready to unveil some other ridiculous name on Monday.
