Pokemon Go anniversary Solstice Event kicks off on June 13th

0

It’s hard to believe, but Pokemon Go has been available on Android and iOS for nearly a year now. To celebrate, Niantic is hosting in-game and real-world Pokemon events to keep fans happy with the game. It looks as though those rumors about trainer battles that surfaced last week are true, too.

Pokemon Go Solstice Event

Niantic has announced the Solstice Event will start on June 13th. The in-game event features a focus on fire and ice type Pokemon, as well as offering big XP bonuses for throwing Poke Balls accurately. The event will also discount the Lucky Eggs available in the in-game shop.

There’s no announcement date for the “collaborative group gameplay” but Niantic says shortly after the Solstice Event goes live, you can expect it to be released. They’re also disabling gyms for a short period of time while this is worked on, so perhaps trainer battles will eventually replace the broken Gym system?

Pokemon Go Fest Chicago

Aside from the Solstice Event taking place in game, Niantic has also announced that the first real-world Pokemon Go meetup will be held in Chicago on July 22nd. Tickets and more information about the Pokemon Go Fest can be had on the Pokemon Go Live website. Ticket sales won’t start until June 19th at 10am PST, so you have a while before you need to frantically refresh to get those tickets.

For European Pokemon fans, Niantic says there will be plenty of Pokemon Go celebrations hosted across the continent June through September and a complete schedule of these events will be posted soon.

Will you be taking part in the summer celebration for Pokemon Go?
