Android Nougat will come to select Sony Smart TV’s at the end of May

0

Earlier today, the folks over at Android Police received a tip suggesting that Sony was preparing to release the Android 7.0 Nougat update for some of its smart TV’s. The tip claimed that the update would be rolling out starting at the end of May or early June.

However, Sony has responded (sort of) by publishing a new support page confirming that the update is indeed coming to some of its smart TV’s. The update isn’t rolling out yet, but it will begin “after 05/2017”.

As for which TV’s are affected, here’s the list of model numbers:

  • KDS8000D
  • KDX8000D
  • KDX8300D
  • KDX7500D
  • KDX7000D
  • KDZ9D

The update will add features such as picture-in-picture while using Android TV apps, task-switching between various apps, and will include Asphalt Nitro in the games category. There are also other tweaks including the ability to use voice search within your browser,  and the ability to add multiple Google accounts to your Android TV.

The biggest removal from this update seems to be the fact that Sony is dropping support for the Gameloft Hub. Instead, downloaded games from Gameloft will appear within the Games category on the home screen.
