Samsung will begin production of first foldable phone later this year

0

Foldable devices have been a dream for a long time. Every year we see new concepts and prototypes, but nothing that we can actually buy. Samsung is one of the manufacturers working on foldable devices. Earlier this week, we wrote about Samsung showing off new prototypes later this month. Now we’re hearing they will have a device ready later this year.

This news comes from a supplier in Taiwan, They claim the company is gearing up for a “small production” run of its first foldable display smartphone in Q4 of this year. We won’t see mass production until 2018. Samsung was originally shooting for Q3 of this year, but they’ve had some trouble with the plastic covers.

A device with a foldable display has tons of possibilities. You could have something in your pocket that is the size of a regular smartphone but can be folded open to double in size. Conversely, you could have something pretty small that opens up to a regular phone size. Are you excited about the prospect of foldable devices?
