GIVEAWAY: Best tech for the kitchen 2016

0

The kitchen is one of the places where we spend quite a bit of time around the holidays. Since we’re all about tech here at Phandroid, we wanted to share some of our favorite gadgets for the kitchen for today’s 2016 Holiday Gift Guide. The item’s we’ve highlighted will help you keep track of food in your fridge, clean the water you drink, make baking and cooking easier or lend a hand in setting timers, dictating recipes or adding items to your shopping list.

Also, we’ve decided to give one of the featured items away! The giveaway details are featured at the end of the post.

Amazon Echo ($139.99) or Google Home ($129.99)

The Amazon Echo is the perfect cooking companion. In addition to filling your kitchen with music while you cook, you can talk to the built-in Alexa personal assistant to set times, look up recipes, get measurement conversions and much more.

If you’re invested in the Google ecosystem, you may actually want to pick Google Home over the Amazon Echo. Google Home does many of the same things that the Echo do, but it’s still a new product. Developers and third-party services are working furiously to incorporate their services into Google Home.

Select-A-Spice Auto-Measure Carousel ($27.15)

With the Select-A-Spice Auto-Measure Carousel, you’ll never have to use measuring spoons to measure spices again. The 12 removable spice compartments allow you to precisely measure how much you need without having to pull out your measuring spoons from the drawer. This isn’t a high-tech gadget, but no one said that tech needs circuit boards to be useful.

Taylor Digital Measuring Cup and Scale ($29.95)

There are plenty of fancy measuring tools for the kitchen, but the Taylor Digital Measuring Cup and Scale is one of our favorites. It allows you to measure solids and liquids like most other measuring cups do, but it also has a built-in scale which allows you to convert preset ingredients between weight and volume.

How many times have you started baking or cooking and then realized you are out of eggs? With the Egg Minder, that will never (at least it shouldn’t) happen again! The Egg Minder keeps track of 14 eggs for you, highlighting which ones are the oldest and sending a push notification to your smartphone when you’re running low. If you’re out shopping, you can pull up the app and see how many eggs are left in your Egg Minder.

Amazon Dash Wand ($49.99)

Buying things on Amazon is really easy, but pulling out your smartphone to add items to your cart isn’t always convenient. The Amazon Dash Wand allows you to easily add items to your card via voice or by scanning the barcode of something you already own. You still need to log into your Amazon account from your phone or computer to complete the order, but using the Amazon Dash Wand in the kitchen (and the rest of the house) should help keep your cabinets stocked when you notice things running low.

Crock-Pot Wemo Smart Slow Cooker ($129.99)

Meals cooked in a slow cooker are the best! Cooking a recipe for 8-10 hours while you’re at work is fairly simple since you can start it right when you leave the house, but there are plenty of meals which require shorter cooking times. Rather than getting a slow cooker with a complicated timer, the Crock-Pot Wemo Smart Slow Cooker is a much better option. It works with a smartphone app which allows you to set precise cooking times and temperatures from home, your car or even work.

SodaStream Source ($94.95)

If you’re a fan of carbonated drinks, you can actually save quite a bit of money by investing in a SodaStream Source. The initial $95 investment may seem a bit steep, but you’ll save money over time – especially since it comes with a 60-liter carbonator mail in rebate. With more than 40 flavors which can be added to the carbonated water, you’ll never be short on beverage options in your house.

Soma Sustainable Pitcher & Plant-Based Water Filter ($33.99)

Quite a few of us use water pitchers with built-in filters. While this allows us to drink cleaner water, many of the filters in the pitchers that we own are not environmentally friendly. The Soma Sustainable Pitcher take a different approach, using coconut shell carbon and a plant-based casing for each filter to ensure that the water you drink has as little impact on the environment as possible. Also, Soma’s pitcher looks a lot cooler than the one you currently own.

Stasher Reusable Silicone Food Bag ($11.95)

If you’re tired of buying resealable bags which need to be thrown out after they’re used, the Stasher Reusable Silicone Food Bag is a great alternative. Who knew you would help save the planet with something as low-tech as a silicon bag with a pinch-press seal. Stasher will keep your food fresh in the fridge or the freezer and is also safe to use in the microwave for cooking and dishwasher for cleaning.
