Honor rumored to announce a modular smartphone without camera and speakers tomorrow

0

Modularity seems to be catching on, but it sounds like Honor might take it to the extreme. The Huawei sub-brand has an event tomorrow to unveil a new concdept smartphone, and the phone will supposedly have some very unique, interesting, and borderline WTF traits in tow.

According to GizmoChina, the new device will not include any speakers or cameras on the main hardware chassis, something that we would never guess an OEM would opt to include. Instead, those components can be added as “attachments.”

We’re not sure what the angle is here, exactly. Is Honor looking to launch a barebones smartphone to keep its introductory price extremely low and offer up camera and speaker components for people who need them? Will those components be packaged in the standard SKU and be the first of many “attachments?” Have they simply gone mad?

Alright, we won’t attack their sanity without getting a look for ourselves. We’ll just have to wait until tomorrow to find out more.
